Women MPs ‘at risk’ under Kelly reforms
From This is London:
Women MPs ‘at risk’ under Kelly reforms
Women MPs attacked plans to curb second homes and travel
allowances today after a minister warned that no female
politician could be expected to walk the streets of London after
11pm.
A group of Labour and Tory women MPs said the proposals
announced last week by anti-sleaze watchdog Sir Christopher
Kelly could deter mothers from standing for office.
It emerged that Work and Pensions Minister Helen Goodman
wrote to Sir Christopher to warn that if second homes were axed
and travel allowances cut then “stress, mental ill-health, divorce, etc would explode. A Parliament of the wealthy and eccentric would result”.
Ms Goodman said it was reasonable for MPs to claim taxis after late votes, usually at 10.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. “Women members cannot be expected to walk around alone in London after 11pm,” she said.
Labour MPs Claire Curtis-Thomas, Kali Mountford and Phyllis Starkey and Tories Jacqui Lait and Eleanor Laing criticised the second home proposals.Subscribe to my accounts on DocStoc, Scribd, Twitter and YouTube.

But men can.“Women members cannot be expected to walk around alone in London after 11pm,” she said.
Where is the 'empowered women' who can 'do anything a man can' ?
Hello !if second homes were axed and travel allowances cut then “stress, mental ill-health, divorce, etc would explode.
"stress, mental ill-health, divorce" !! Did you not hear the explosion as the country blew up outside already?

Are they not further exacerbating the ridicule aimed at certain histrionic female MPs?
Aye that be true. For after the clock strikes 11pm, legions of the unwashed, murderous and the insane converge on Westminster with a ravenous craving for the blood of female MPs.after a minister warned that no female politician could be expected to walk the streets of London after 11pm

Would they still remain the ugly sisters though after midnight?

What happens if they go out after 11:00pm, what?
Some blood thirsty misogynist vampire is going to suck their blood and beat the hell out of them?

Re: Women MPs ‘at risk’ under Kelly reforms
Exactly how and why are the streets of the country's capital unsafe at night? Who has been in charge of the country for the last 12 years and done absolutely nothing to make them any safer? Who has actually made things worse by encouraging a society where morality, decency and respect for others have become dirty words? Who has emasculated the police force and turned it into a bunch of politically correct, apologetic, feminist-controlled, weak-willed, spineless social workers? Who has replaced common sense with bigoted ideology? Who has mocked all forms of self-control, and promoted greed and selfishness, setting the worst possible example in their own lives?
Let them reap what they have sown. I would specifically force every MP out onto the streets of London every night, and let them walk alone among the wreckage they have created. With the female MPs in particular being dropped into the middle of the worst sink estates. Maybe they might then learn what they have done, and find ways of putting it right.

Re: Women MPs ‘at risk’ under Kelly reforms
So a woman has aspirations to be a politician, she gets educated, she makes herself electable, unlike 99% of female politicians, and at the last minute she's put off because she might have to walk the streets of London after 11pm? Bollocks, ever heard of a taxi, sweetheart? You know, one of those things that most late workers have to use due the unsafe streets?
Men are far more likely to be the victims of violent unprovoked attacks, yet it's female politicians who are deterred?
This is yet another excuse for pitiful women.
"Why are there so few women in politics?"
Me: My opinion
Feminist: Because they aren't awarded a free second home in London near their place of work, and are refused 24/7/365 armed protection.
Pitiful in the extreme.
Ladies, pull your thumbs out your rear, and do what male politicians have had to do since day one, make yourself electable to more than half the population, instead of pandering to one half all the time, then maybe we will have more women in politics.Hugh & Mary Discuss Feminist Related Issues (ALL SUBTITLED): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...0081D259987DCD
