This is excellent news, especially given the relative closeness of the donor to the mother. There are examples from all around the world of men being made to pay heavily for the paltry sum they once earned as a sperm donor, even when supposedly anonymous. That there are some parts of the world that recognise that the difference between a sperm donor and a dad is encouraging.

Of course, this case is not necessarily over yet .. and the law can always be changed to make him pay.

Zuberi is correct. The only safe thing is not to donate: $250 now given to a sperm donor can so easily turn into a $250,000 bill for raising a child over 18 years.

Simply don't donate sperm. A lot of guys think it might be great to spread their seeds, but if those seeds come back to take your financial future, you are screwed.
