Re: Quebec man behind Marc Lepine blog to argue for bail
I posted the following,
I am familiar with this man's blog, and while I find the praising of murder and the disregard for the lives of the victims disturbing, it is no more disturbing then the way feminists have declared Mary Winkler a heroine for shooting her husband in the back while he slept or the way Lorena Bobbit has been promoted as the feminist poster child for mutilating her husband's genitals.
The web is rife with feminist sites promoting the death and mutilation of men....not just a few men or a specific type of men, but anyone who happens to have been born with a Y chromosome. I've yet to see any of the authors who support and promote violence against men incarcerated.
Additionally, as Kargan stated, this is very much a free speech issue. Do we really want to see people jailed because we found their speech to be offensive? Tread carefully Canada. This is a slippery slope. While you might be perfectly comfortable watching those whose views you abhor thrown in jail, it will be infinitely less comfortable when it is your own views that have been deemed offensive.

McKay

Let's not forget this isn't just restricted to the web, Kim. Feminist professors openly advocate this in campus classrooms, meetings and at rallies where scissor waving feminist students feverishly incite for the castration of males.
In fact, an excess of feminist literature incites hatred and violence against males.Last edited by Celtic Druid; 2nd-February-2010 at 10:07 PM.

Re: Quebec man behind Marc Lepine blog to argue for bail
Forgive me but I don't recall seeing Mary Winkler ever touted as a heroine or Lorena Bobbitt a poster child for anything. I think these statements are (sorry Kim) quite a stretch. And I've seen quite a few feminist sites and do not see these sites promoting the mutilating and killing men. Like most of the rest of you, I despise the feminist sites I've seen thus far, but let's not exaggerate when we speak of them. We lose credibility when we make statements like these. As for the free speech issue, the issue is, he made threats. He didn't just talk about offensive material, he threatened violence. That's against the law. However, since the threat wasn't against a specific person, the whole thing isn't likely to go very far. One might argue it is hate speech. What one writes is their own business except when the writing is in public medium. Not all speech is protected and rightly so.

Re: Quebec man behind Marc Lepine blog to argue for bail
You would be incorrect.
I have on many occasions been witness to women referring to Mary Winkler a heroine. Try googling "Mary Winkler" and "heroine"....I'm sure you'll come across some as well. I've also seen numerous instances of Lorena Bobbitt being heralded an example for women everywhere."Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very good’s sake—that is spirituality." -David O. Re: Quebec man behind Marc Lepine blog to argue for bail
You're right, I googled it and there were references....and if you google "Marc Lepine" and "hero" you get folk hero a few times, too. I'm not sure that really means that the general population sees him (or her) in hero or heroine status.
Interestingly, I just googled "making threats on the internet" and apparently it is a rather serious business. More than a few have been arrested for this kind of thing such as this guy:

Re: Quebec man behind Marc Lepine blog to argue for bail
Several years ago, a firm of legal parasites threatened me with action regarding a few things I told them I was thinking of.. The took my comments as "threats"..
I told them if they would rather I did not talk about what I was thinking of, I would not talk about it.. I would just do it,... Would they rather know what to expect or would they rather just get what was coming to them without a warning?
A few days later, they got what was coming to them, and I greatly enjoyed it..
They did not make any effort whatsoever to carry out any of their legal threats..
It was gathered, that they would rather just not have the publicity, shame of them!!
