Michael Jackson R.I.P
Whatever you think of the man/boy, he was a musical dynamo. Whatever his faults, and you gotta know he had some (not to mention a questionable interest in children). But looking through the glass of history, creative people were rife with faults.
No matter what he might or might not have done ( again, I agree, some could have been horrendous ), I'm raising my glass to Mike, and thanking him for the experience known as 'Thriller' (the album). It came out the time I was 10 or 11, and I was blown away.
I've never been much of his work since then, as I 'got' into my southern rock and roadhouse music period then, but I continued to repect him until he morphed into White Power Ranger and adopted a chimp, but hey that's his life.
So here is to Mike, for contributing a peice of art to our world.

Re: Michael Jackson R.I.P
With respect RookRoost, small boys of 10 - 11 can be impressed very easily.
The current hysteria reminds me of Pricess Di nonsense.
Jackson was for-ever 10 year old, talented at gyrating and screetching like a loon. Overall a waste of time and oxygen who never grew up.
Yes, R.I.P, as anyone, even the least, deserves. But as for anything positive in contribution........ nada. He did nothing positive for the image of Men.

Re: Michael Jackson R.I.P
I liked his work while he was black and not yet seeking to resemble freakish. "Thriller" was a great pop album, so was "Off the Wall." After 1983, he took a turn for the wacko, and I stopped buying his music.
"Thriller" was not the first high-budget music video, but it sure set the standard for others to follow, thanks to director John Landis, and launched the music industry into a fight for MTV play time.
When you live your life with yes-people around you 24/7 telling you how great you are, life becomes unsatisfying, so you try all kinds of illegal & immoral things to try and buy yourself some spice. Michael was in that place for 25 years. He was a rich young man with too much time on his hands, he got bored and very, very weird.

Again, you are right on all of your points, Percy.
However, I am simply acknowlodging an important peice of entertainment. Do I still listen to 'Thriller' no. But i also don't read 'Where the Wild Things Are' either. I am simply saying goodbye to an icon of my youth.

Re: Michael Jackson R.I.P
Michael was a man that brought happiness to folk of all ages
I guess he had a less than conventional sexuality and a less wealthy man man would be doing time for his pecadillos
but he killed nobody not like that "doctor" that made a living chopping up late term babies

Re: Michael Jackson R.I.P
We have something in common, Percy

I love Buddy Holly. Always have. I even have super-8 footage of me around four years old singing 'Peggy-Sue'. Mom grew up during the fifties so I'm well versed in the singers of that period
Well, pretty well versed. Since I was a kid at the time, I didn't pay attention to all the bands names. But I know the songs!
