    Men Protecting Women

    MEN PROTECTING WOMEN
    -Frederica Mathews-Green

When my daughter got a job delivering pizzas, I was a little concerned. Is the neighborhood safe? Do they deliver after dark? I imagined her standing in a shadowy hallway all alone, vulnerable to any sort of mayhem, and armed only with a pizza.

She came home from the first day at work with reassuring news. "They donít take any chances," she said. "If they have any questions about the call, they wonít send me. Theyíll send one of the guys."

I felt ambivalent. I was glad that my daughter would be reasonably safe. But now I was imagining some boy in a greasy pizza-delivery smock standing in that same shadowy hallway, with skin no more bulletproof than my daughterís. He would go in her place, if there was any chance of danger. I didnít even know his name.

We hear plenty of persistent, and sometimes justified, complaining that women get a raw deal in life, that men get all the breaks. But we forget one thing guys do for us, without thinking, over and over again. Itís something we expect from them; we may even take it for granted. We expect them to risk their lives.

Itís part of the guy job description. Whenever thereís danger, any man is expected to protect any woman at any cost. This is true no matter who she is; itís not an honor awarded only to his wife or daughter. I remember reading about two reporters who were mugged on a city street; the man leapt in front of the woman to take a fatal bullet. It struck me as a noble gesture, but one which followed the natural order of things. It wasnít until I tried to imagine her leaping in front of him that I realized the size of the sacrifice. Itís just what we expect men to do.

Does this mean that we value womenís lives more than menís? We certainly seem more comfortable risking menís lives, whether in war or firefighting or pizza delivery. When you stop and think about it, itís a pretty impressive gift for one gender to give another.

I think about all the men who have reflexively protected me all my life, hard-wired by genes and training to do so. Guys darting ahead of me up the stairs of a parking garage, or getting imperceptibly larger as we walk down a dark street, as if they were being inflated with an air hose. Sometimes their worry seemed silly to me, and I accepted it with a sigh, as my children react to my worrying over them.

Menís urge to protect women must feel something like womenís urge to protect our children. My urge to protect my daughteróand my son. I wonder what sorts of jobs heíll have when heís a little older. One thingís for sure. I donít want him delivering pizza.

That's gender discrimination on the job and should be protested. What's more, the guys are probably making the same at the girls, which is further discrimination as it is equal pay for doing MORE work, i.e. going on dangerous calls. The writer's feminized daughter should speak up and demand equal treatment and that she be sent on these questionable calls so that she can "prove she's as tough as any guy."

there is a small group of psychopathic men who will not hesitate to assault and rape a woman especially a young and pretty one

I would not send my daughter delivering pizzas in my area as the small group of psychopaths live here in my opinion hahhahaha

women are weaker physically than men and no matteer how much the feminits deny this fact

so I believe for the sake of humanity alone women should not be put in obvious risk of assault and rape

    And herein lies the rub.
Chivalry used to imply an onus to protect the weaker, vulnerable members of the clan, and fellow travelers, from outside threats, not JUST teh wimins and children.

Also, I have always considered a piping hot pizza a viable weapon, with certain sticky, gooey, napalm like qualities (extra cheese please), but that's from when I lived in large "liberal" cities with strict anti-self defence laws, high violent crime rates, and low arrest/conviction/sentencing guidelines.
"Sicilian" was available by the slice, or two, 24/7.

I am not interested in what feminists want.

I protect MY ladies, nobody else's. Feminist society breeds opportunists who would sieze any opportunity to make men out to be criminals. Females can cry and beg for protection (and they do) and then turn around and claim abuse or a crime against them, by the very one they sought protection from. That is case law and is undeniable.

By this reckoning, I would be irresponsible to my own duties as husband and father, to stick my neck out for any female in such a feminist society, where my chivalry for a stranger could remove my ability to provide for my own family. No thanks. I will not risk my home's security for a stranger. Too many predators out there. This is one result of feminism. Way to go, girls, you shoot off your own leg for a few bucks!

Don't agree? Perhaps you have not yet been stung...

O.k. I admit it, I'm in a mood and sometimes this site gets to me...well certain aspects of it do, and now is one of these moments. For all you men who are generally bigger and stronger than the average female but because of "feminism" want to throw all ladies to the wolves, why don't you just take your attitude and your balls (or lack thereof) and go home. You know you want to.

Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

    Anger begets anger, begets anger.

Feminism's false-anger, deliberate anger, irrational and unjust anger, begat our anger, which begets yours.

Tera, we didn't want to throw the ladies to the wolves. Some of us told the ladies waht would happen when they derided us, vilified us, demeaned us for being gentlemen. It is a sadness to me and to many men.

But get angry at us if it makes you feel better. It is par for the female course.

Can you not see the consequences? You disappoint me.

Merely because men are, as you say, "generally bigger and stronger than the average female" they have been the ones thrown to the wolves through all eternity. Nothing has changed.

What are you worried about? Being treated equally?

Somebody let me know when they learn how manufacture, repair, maintain, and produce ammunition casings/propellant/primer/projectiles for them.

In the meantime, I'll remain vigilant of false accusations of "domestic (so-called) violence",
ALLEGED promotion quota criteria, (oh hell, to long to itemize further), and the men that ultimately do the dirty, heavy lifting to violently "enforce" such interpretations of
    unmerited transfer of wealth (assets).

Thank goodness I know how to use a sewing machine, (thank you Mr. Singer)and MAKE all those labor saving thinks like barrels, spinning wheels, looms, plows, houses, churches, boats, ad nauseam.

In fairness, I'm weak in the science of baked goods.
I rely on the man in town that wears that funny hat, who chose to specialize in that for bread (and almond croissants). When he needs bricks for a new oven, I know where to find, and how to extract, the clay, and catch a few fish at the same time.

    Re: Men Protecting Women

I am thankful I married a girl without the evil seed of anger or feminism implanted into her emotions by the Western culture. She is as small a fan of feminism as I am, and her jokes about the rabid ones are funnier than mine.

I am also thankful that feminists do not anger me, but amuse me. I can usually smell it like excrement among the lillies. The life that feminists talk themselves out of, and rob themselves and others of, is priceless, but I do not give feminists my emotions, ever. They do not qualify. It is a choice. When they choose poorly, usually with emotion, they deserve rebuke and correction, but not sympathy.

Tera, I look forward to your posts when you aren't in a "mood." You are generally a nice read, despite your disadvantage. Have a nice weekend!

Ahem....back to the topic at hand. I understand how the author feels. As I let my children go in increments, I have all the same worries and concerns for their welfare. My sons are just as breakable and capable of sustaining injury and harm as my daughter. The whole "they're boys" argument does not render them immortal or impervious to physical, emotional or mental harm.

    Quote Quote from Percy
Dear Frederica, mom of a daughter.
    ....and of a son.
"Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very goodís sakeóthat is spirituality." -David O. McKay
