Much more at the above url. This is the Alice In Wonderland world of the High Court, where judicial wisdom has been inverted in a case that would be as darkly comical as anything from Lewis Carroll’s pen, were it not — at the same time — so troubling for those of us who still reside in the real world.
Here comes Alice now. Or rather, Helen Green — a company secretary who was this week awarded £800,000 in compensation for a campaign of petty harassment that she claimed had destroyed her life and well-being.
Hers is the hideously distorted world where self-styled victims reign supreme, where highly educated, sophisticated women can play Little Miss Lost at the drop of an insult.
A world where bosses of multi-billion-pound businesses are so inept they canÂ’t even sort out a bout of bitchiness, and where nearly £1million is seen as appropriate recompense for wounded feelings caused by playground bullying.►My blog / Your Blog

Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: This mad culture of victimhood
Bloody pathetic. They're only too quick to throw in "sexual" before that harassment tag as well. How can anyone say anything said in an office can "ruin" your life? And even worse, how can it be worth £800,000 to someone? Stupid bitch.
Out of all the hardships in the world and those struggling, some lazy greedy slapper gets a big fat payoff for petty office teasing.

...to quote one of the comments...
She seems to be better now. I suppose £800,000 has that effect on you.

Re: This mad culture of victimhood
...and then another one
I think its a bit obscene. Gulf war victims, victims of crime or abuse, people disabled defending there country get far far smaller compensation payouts.
Most people in other professions could never expect these sums. why should someone because they work in the city be paid so much. Particularly as they are ble to still pursue a career. The payment should be appropriate to the action.

Re: This mad culture of victimhood
Since a lot of the best blogs seem to be from the UK, I've seen a lot about really insane rulings by your courts. I know that jury trials in the US are fairly insane, but this seems to be higher judges making these judgements. Do you guys have the same problem with "judicial activism" as we do on this side of the pond?

Re: This mad culture of victimhood
I wonder then, if I can claim 30 yrs of bullying... from various media organisations, feminists, government bodies...
If she got £800,000 for 4yrs, I should be a multi-billionaire!!!►My blog / Your Blog

Re: This mad culture of victimhood
These lawsuits don't seem to solve anything. Healthcare pays out huge sums, but they still either pump you full of pills or cut you open. Nobody is gonna quit bullying people, because of this. It just causes problems for companies, workers and consumers. Although, some victims of bullying are saying, good for you Alice! Still, those same people will no doubt tailgate you and respond in a rage, if you come to a complete stop at a stop sign.
