Iran: Young Kurdish feminist gets five-year jail term
Tehran, 19 June (AKI) - A court in the capital of Iranian Kurdistan, Sanandaj has sentenced 21-year-old Kurdish feminist Hana Abdi to five years in prison for "subversive activities" and "collaboration with the enemy".
The court ruled that Abdi must serve her jail term in a prison far from her native Kurdistan. Prior to her trial and sentencing on Wednesday, she was reportedly tortured and accused of associating with armed groups.
Police last October arrested Abdi, a psychology student at Payam University, as she attended a meeting of a local feminist group.
The fate of another female student activist attending the meeting, Rounak Saffarzadeh, who was arrested at the same time as Abdi, remains unknown.
Saffarzadeh is also accused of collaborating with armed groups and subversive activities.
How DARE they arrest her. She's female, dammit! And more importantly, she's a feminist! DAMN!
This is an outrage... Powerful Sistah's shall soon be upon the authorities, moaning, complaining, whining, nagging, shrilling, yapping, nagging some more... Soon the Sistah will be released!
