Am I the only bothered by this? It seems as if men are incapable of not going to the store with their wives (or shopping with them for that matter) that they need to be babysat?

While the concept of having a wait area at a store isn't a bad idea, this is clearly a one sided and almost unnoticeable misandric way of doing it. And who says men hate shopping for furniture? Every trip I have taken to IKEA "previously" (there is a local one in Burbank) I have enjoyed (and many of the other men I know likewise)... While this is only at the IKEA in the most feminist country, I can see this going elsewhere, and I'm not going to support it.

I saw a video on this a few weeks back and I didn't entirely disagree with the idea. What I disagree with is how they have tried to appeal to the women in order to promote it. If they had opened this and simply said it was an area where guys could de-stress while their girlfriend's went on to de-stress in her own way (shopping) that would have been fine... But to call it a Daddy Day-care is just disgusting and IKEA needs to be reminded we are not children that they can mock so openly.

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

That may be why I take odds at it. Having a waiting area is a great Idea but the treatment (once again) that men need to be babysat is irritating...

Re: Ikea continues its Anti-Male habits

At first, I didn't feel inclined to blame IKEA for this. It seemed like a good idea. I thought it was the news channel putting their own female-supremacist spin on it.

Then I listened to the IKEA spokeswoman and her interviewer. It's true! It really is a conspiracy!

But then I think of the men who are so easily satisfied by some free fun distractions while she spends his/their money.

You've got to hand it to them. A few smart women can pull off a stunt like this because the average man doesn't even know when he's being mugged.

On another level the female shoppers also don't realize they're being mugged but why would they care. They buy tacky overpriced furniture made by machines instead of craftsmen. Men invented, designed and produced those machines. In most cases the shoppers will still need a man to assemble the flat-pack-crap at home.

Meanwhile, in the "waiting area", men give thanks to IKEA for a few table-football units. I despair!

We could call these men 'poodles' and point out their abject victim status Their idea of masculinity would be to punch us in the mouth for daring to criticize their manhood.

Men are their own worst enemy. Women know this and feminists have built an empire on it. Suggestions?

    Agreed.

What annoys me is that is the notion that just because we men act silly and goofy, that it must follow that we are immature and need to grow up. Many of us are just "kids at heart". Nothing wrong with that.

WHO DEFINES MATURITY? Can you come up with a definition that doesn't involve serving women? If you can I'd be very glad to hear it.

WHO DEFINES MATURITY? Can you come up with a definition that doesn't involve serving women? If you can I'd be very glad to hear it.
The online Merriam Webster defines maturity as follows:
the quality or state of being mature; especially: full development

What's really telling, though, are the examples provided:
    1. His behavior shows a lack of maturity.
    2. He reached emotional maturity late in his life.
The references to immaturity, of course, refer to men!

Personally, my only criterion for being mature is being a moral person. My only criterion for moral value is that people "do no harm." This includes allowing no one to harm you, for the same reason you should not harm others: we all have value, including ourselves. Harm includes physicall harm, insults, lies, and theft, etc. I feel that, generally but not perfectly, I have been mature since about 12 or 13, having seen some of the most evil people I've ever encountered in life both at home and church and refusing to be anything like them.

Women always talk about girls maturing faster than boys. I don't agree. Do they mean girls learn to manipulate more quickly than boys do? Fine. But that's not maturity. That's the antithesis of maturity. Being a moral human being is the only way one can be mature. It has nothing to do with being serious, skilled, or socially acceptable. It has to do with taking responsible for oneself and one's actions, not harming others, making things right when one errs, etc. If women, generally speaking, refuse to accept responsiblity for themselves and always blame men, then they are immature and in a state of perpetual adolescence.

By the way, the online Merriam Webster dictionary defines "sexism" as follows:
prejudice or discrimination based on sex; especially: discrimination against women

No surprise there. I was surprised, though, that MW actually includes misandry!

    a hatred of men
    First Known Use: circa 1909

Here's an interesting comment about why one person looked up the word:

Julie Newton Sloane · Vice president at Sloane & Company
I was writing a story in which the woman protagonist hated men and I didn't know the word. I thought this was odd that I would know the word for people who hate women, and people who hate people, but not people who hate just men. Isn't it interesting that this word is so unknown. What do you think this means?

    Not at all.

As that very same dictionary points out, "he" and even "his" can be used in gender-neutral terms.

In the English language, the gender non-specific word is very often the same as the male-specific word, and vice-versa. Only the female-specific words are exclusively feminine. So "he" refers to a person of any gender and "his" refers to something belonging to a person of any gender unless the context specifically indicates that the person is male.

(Feminist language tends to pretend that this is discriminatory against women, and introduces further complication and bias by interchanging 'his' and 'her', or even replacing 'his' and 'he' with 'hers' and 'she' thereby specifically excluding men.)

I've had "equality" hammered at me all my life. It's about time I had some of it.
    I like females - I admire femininity - I despise feminism

Yeah, I am well aware of that. I wish this usage were still the standard form, but it's not. As we all know, people say and write "he or she", etc. and use "they" as the generic singular. It's obnoxious and messy.

Do some random searches on the online dictionary. And see if you detect any bias. Why is it that the examples of "maturity" refering to people only refer to "he" whereas the examples of "angry" refer to he, she, you and they?

    Angry:
    1. I've never seen her look so angry.
    2. An angry crowd gathered outside the courthouse.
    3. I was angry that he had forgotten my birthday.
    4. What made you so angry?
    5. He got angry when he found out about their plans.
    6. He sent an angry letter to the company president.
    7. They had an argument and exchanged some angry words.
    8. She gave me an angry look.

I don't shop there anymore, so I won't be contributing any money to these fools. Crappy, overpriced furniture.

I don't understand why men surrender their backbone when they get married. Wouldn't it be adult to say something like "No honey, shopping at Ikea bores me witless I'm off to the pub/fishing/football/shed, have a great time."

    Ditzy female presenter said:
There's a half an hour limit on leaving your partner there, he'll be returned in time to pay and push the trolley
Treat him like a child upon entering the store and then he must conveniently transform into an adult to pay for everything once the goods are selected, and then into a pack mule to lug everything home, then into a DIY master to put all that crap together. Later on he turns into the complaints department when her ladyship isn't quite happy about some piffling insignificance.

Is it any wonder why men don't want to go to frigging Ikea!
