...Ordinarily, changing an organization's culture is pretty hard work. But when the culture in need of change is a macho culture where good old-fashioned debauchery and "boys being boys" is OK as long as no one gets caught -- the solution is pretty straightforward: Hire more women. Isn't it funny how having to work alongside a woman who, for instance, knows your wife -- seems to inhibit old fashioned male fun?...

...Today's campaign plane has been cleaned up a lot -- from the candidates to the reporters -- and the most important reason is that there are now a fair number of women on the plane, as both advisers with real power and reporters with real power. Can you imagine the kind of debauchery that was standard operating procedure 50 years ago being tolerated by Beth Meyers, the influential, longtime aide to Mitt Romney who has the important job of heading his vice presidential search?

Years ago the only women around were young women with no power. They were often the victims of a bad culture. Today there are middle-aged women with real power. They are not victims of the all male culture -- they change it...

...I know this has happened in politics, I saw it myself coming into the business at the end of the old era. And I suspect it has happened in other professions, as well. Do advertising executives still woo clients with multiple martinis and high-class call girls, a la "Mad Men"? Maybe. But I suspect the presence of lot of powerful women in that business has reduced the overall level of debauchery.

If there does turn out to be a culture of debauchery in the Secret Service, it will not come as a surprise. After all, the "protection professions," if you will -- Secret Service, police, military -- are among the last professions to be overwhelmingly male. And yet, as we've seen in the military, when technology takes over from muscle, women start to do the same things as men. In the workplace they begin to go where only men used to go.
And outside of the workplace? Well, it's hard to imagine an organization where the women head out to a brothel together.

The whole 'scandal' was only made known because the Colombian prostitutes didn't receive what they deemed to be fair recompense (600 dollars?). I'm not a big fan of Obama, his Secret Service detail or prostitutes, but how was this allowed to be made public with all the American authority and influence? Pay off the whores and avoid political embarrassment.

You also don't sacrifice good men to the political correctness god. Never! A good leader will refuse to allow this to happen.

And the flippant idea of hiring more women is delving into a feminist fantasist zone, would any potential female president and staff feel more safe in a incendiary country in the middle-east, where they regularly behead captives, by being politically correct in appointing a certain percentage of the detail female? Fuck no, I guarantee even the most feminist-nazi woman will be demanding a male guard to lessen the chance of her being beheaded! Fantasy vs reality.

I'm sure it's actually a political correctness GODDESS, based on how people react to all things PC, i.e. they mindlessly do whatever it says and irrationally defend it!

Feminists want to run and control men and they do this by getting women to enter all or mostly male spaces (no privacy) and then try to make them more pc and quasi formal. They want to know everything men do to make sure that they are civilized. If men are not "civilized" in the here space feminist women have another case of misogyny to prove their theories.

That said I really don't know the case but #1 it shouldn't be as public as it is (considering how closed the government is). #2 we didn't hire the SS to be sleeping around. #3 This wouldn't have gained national attention if the same bad "servicemen" had killed a man for no reason...

And when technology fails? Yeah, I thought so. There are women who can handle it but they are far, few, and respected...

More women in a job like that wont solve anything but the financial problems that will catch up to feminist groups. All female workplaces have their own set of problems (believe me I've worked in them)...
