Gender pay gap in the city 'shocking'

BBC NEWS | UK | Gender pay gap in City 'shocking'

Or is what's shocking more the differences in hours worked, years of experience, ability etc? I'll leave the more logical amongst you to decide....

"Behind every bitch, is a FEMINIST who made her that way....". Myself

Re: Gender pay gap in the city 'shocking'

Men working in the UK's financial sector receive five times more in bonus payments than women, according to a survey of 44 leading companies.
No mention of ratio of gender in those 44 companies, if the men outweigh the women 5 to 1, then it's fair, but if it's about half and half, and the men are putting in more hours and working a lot harder to reach their targets, it's also fair. The lesson is simple, women, pull your thumb out your arse.
On average, women earn £2,875 compared with £14,554 for men, the Equality and Human Rights Commission found.
Ah, you see it? Of course you do, you're not a buffoon, but for most people, they would have missed those magical words "On average', those words are often used to disguise lies, and could be used in a lot of ways, like team A scores twice as many goals on average as team B, ah yes, but team B aren't letting in 4 goals a game.
One of the main reasons for the vast difference in bonuses is that relatively few women reach the top ranks of financial firms where the biggest rewards are paid.
Again, I go back to my thumb up their arse argument.
It comes on top of an average difference of 39% between men and women's basic salaries.
There's that magical word again. I don't want average, I want job-by-job, person-by-person numbers, but they don't show unfairness, so I guess we have to keep hearing about averages.
The EHRC said the gender divide was "entrenched" by recruitment patterns, with women starting at companies on lower salaries and then being left behind throughout their career.
They're not "left behind" as is suggested here, they CHOOSE to work less after having children, they stay behind, they're not left there.
Ms Harman, who is also minister for women, said: "We cannot tackle discrimination if it is hidden which is why I asked the commission to produce this report.
Discrimination also cannot be tackled if it does not exist.
"Despite many actions taken by the government since 1997, inequality and discrimination still exist
So let's get this straight, the British government have worked to eradicate inequality and discrimination for 12 years now, and it still exists? Surely that then means the government are utterly incompetent in that department, the department that Harriet is minister of? Yet we've to still go along with her ineffective ideas even though she's shown her ideas are useless?
This country has become a laughing stock DB, and I hate to say that, I love my country.
