I am not a 'toff'. I was born a working-class lad and achieved my place in life, in British life, commensurate with my efforts. But even working lads of my generation were 'aspirational' and improved themselves. They were taught good manners and given a sound set of 'working' Principles unrelated to 'theory' but largely of a Christian nature. They were foundations that could be built upon. England created the modern world. It was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution that has delivered so much to everyone. It was the core of a Civilisation, the best and most benign the world has experienced. It devised, almost alone, the civil structures that all Anglophile countries as well as many others it 'ruled' share; those Institutions based on Law which treats all equally and Government that is largely Democratic. It defended the nascent civil world from the uncivil French across several hundred years, shedding English blood to save countless people in pretty well every country in Europe, countering the Spanish and Portugese and to some small extent the Dutch. It begat Amarica, and Australia and Canada and New Zealand, England's sons. It defended - even when entirely alone - civilisation against the Nazis when so many other Nations sat on the sidelines weighing up their options and bank accounts. I have a lot to be proud of - even though I simply inherited it. I did my very small part in such a long history of achievement, adding in proportion in keeping with that history. But every country grows old. I see England dying from scurvy and the plague, from simple lack of hygene and looking after itself properly. It has thrown away its Principles. It has derided the values and ethics of even simple living that I was taught. No. That I was given as a gift. It has thrown away those gifts. And I grieve as it decends into senile anger and bitterness. Who or what is to blame? It isn't simply Feminism. It is a whole raft of National Soul destroying ailments of which Feminism is just one. I think bad parenting would share part of the blame. For some reason the promoted style is "raising them happy" than "raising them to be good people in the world". Kids are treated like kids until they mature by themselves, when it should be to treat them in a way that helps them mature. Maybe this would explain the yobs/chavs or delinquent youths at least from my point of view. | |||
