I get those all the time. Almost always from an African nation and always from some bank officer. It is always to give me money from some dead guy who was from a nation other than the original senders. And they always seem to have the greatest of trust in me. I'll bet there are 4 or 5 in my junk mail right now as well as at least 2 from the lottery in the UK. Chevalier. "no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for his brother."

I wonder who would be stupid enough to fall for this little scam.

I don't know but apparently people do or the scam would go away. Last year I even had one scammer send me a check for $2,500.00 dollars but of course not knowing the people who said I had won a lottery that I had never entered. Needless to say I drove right past the bank on the way to the police station. They took the check and called me several days later saying that nearly 50 people had cashed those checks but then the checks bounced. Here is the scam the money you got from cashing the check went to pay to process the claim on the money that they claimed the people had won. So stupid selfish people cashed the checks and sent the scammers the money only to find out that they now owed their own banks thousands of dollars or at minimum lost part of their life savings. I was amazed that so many in my little town fell for the scam. Chevalier. "no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for his brother."

I didn't cash the check for a couple of reasons. 1 I never entered the lottery. 2 Why would I pay to process a claim on a lottery they said I already won? By telling me I had won it seems to me that everything had been processed. They already had my name and address so what more could they need to process to send the alleged winnings. It's not like they would have to find me again. I just can't believe people fell for it without asking "Is this too good to be true?" If you start there then the rest falls easily into place. I get a stack of these too... I read of one guy who responded for fun, and ventured into the mechanics of the process. He sent off a copy of 'his' passport (edit to reflect details for "James Brosnan Bond" or something... It was a funny read!

I get them too; several a day. The best one was from a chap in Nigeria who claimed that his cousin was Nigeria's only astronaut, who had been sent up in a Russian rocket in the early 80's. Nigeria's space budget didn't run to bringing him back though and he is still up there (eating marmite sandwiches, I guess) and his back pay was now at $15,000,000. Did I want some? (of the pay, not the sandwiches) Family, eh! I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it. But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up. I am outnumbered. But... YOU don't just make a difference, you make THE difference. ![]()
