New York lawyer Roy Den Hollander is suing Columbia University for having a Women’s Studies department and no equivalent counterpart for men. A self-proclaimed ‘anti-feminist,’ Hollander has also sued against ‘Ladies Nights’ at bars, and the citizenship rights of foreign ex-wives of U.S. men (stipulating parts of 1994’s Violence Against Women Act are unconstitutional). Those suits are pending.

In the Columbia suit, the plaintiff alleges, ‘The Feminist agenda, curriculum and practices at Columbia… are motivated by prejudice toward men that leads to sex-based stereotyping of males by depicting them as the primary cause for most, if not all, the world’s ills throughout history. Females, on the other hand are credited with inherent goodness who were oppressed and colonized by men.” As a former grad student at Columbia, he is suing on behalf of all former and current male students, naming, in addition to the university, both the state and federal governments (who help fund the school) as defendents. He seeks to either shut down the Women’s Studies department, or a court order for Columbia to open a Men’s Studies equivalent.

um, a) in most cultures, the average woman didn’t receive higher education until the mid-1900s. presently, some cultures STILL look down on educating women. college IS men’s studies. it’s like asking y there’s an ‘african american studies’ department and not ‘white studies.’ could columbia be more pc and change ‘women’s studies’ to ‘gender studies’? yea. but it doesn’t change that the subject of women is many times omitted from history classes. and 2) are men NOT ‘the primary cause of most of the worlds’ ills throughout history’? show me a female version of hitler, stalin, mao, hussein, or even pro-war bush. the only ridiculous woman leader in recent history that comes to mind is thatcher, but she was just ultra conservative. she didn’t slaughter millions of her own countrymen for political gain. i tend to agree with sally fields’ emmy speech- ‘if the mothers ruled the world, there would be no goddamn wars in the first place.’

Hollander is a divorced, club-hopping ho. One journalist wrote, ‘He refused to give his age, claiming it would hinder his chances of picking up younger women at city nightspots. “I’m always running into women who think I’m younger than I am, so I don’t want to disillusion them,” Hollander noted.’
