Hey everyone, ever heard of Masculism? Or the Men's Rights Movement?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masculism

Their Wiki page is so full of weasel words it's absurd. And the wonderful wiki message: "This article or section is in need of attention from an expert on the subject." It's basically a bunch of idiots not understanding what feminism is and seeing equality slowly slowly being reached in certain (and, by no means, all) spheres of life and getting angry about it. Then trying to paint themselves as the oppressed people in society. It's the ultimate insult that people of such privilege are walking around truly believing that they are the oppressed. I agree that no-one benefits under patriarchy and I have had a few things up against me as a male, not living up to standards of conventional maleness, but these instances are minuscule when compared to the amount of oppression and inequality for women still enforced in our society.

If you really want to see some idiotic, sexist bullshit, watch these videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/ArgusEyes

I HATE this shit, and I really hate the even more specific, "WHITE males oppressed!" movement.

I believe we should have equal rights, and in some cases feminism can be radical. But men don't have it hard. They can whine all they want, they are not being oppressed in any way. I read something in that article about men angry about the rape statistics in jail, they want something to do be done about it. I know the perfect solution, STOP raping people! It's not women raping men in jail, it's men raping men. If they would stop humping everything in sight, they would be fine. :|

I actually believe that some men really do feel oppressed, not these jackholes, but some. I mean, how would you feel if you had to constantly put up a tough-guy front just so people wouldn't ridicule you or call you a queer? I'd hate it just as much as being told that women are by nature more sensitive and caring. Like people who see it as 'guys fight and girls cry'. That's it. You, by your unchosen anatomy, are expected to act a certain way because it's been said for so long that it's almost true. *shudder*
But I do agree that these asshats need a good jail-style-locker-room-raping. Mmmmm OZ....

Unfortunately, it's like these stereotypes will never die. When I got my hair cut short, and suggested I should get a couple tattoos, I was labeled a lesbian. Nothing wrong with lesbians, but everyone said I wasn't girly enough to be straight. My boyfriend, who is a boy, (Surprise!) also has to deal with shit dealed out by his family. If he isn't constantly defending himself from physical attacks to somehow assert dominance in the household, which they all live in with their mom by the way, he is made fun of because his girlfriend doesn't wear short shorts and storm around the house in the nude, like we all do when we are alone of course.

I do agree with a little of the MRA stance. Gender roles do hurt everyone, including men. And as long as gender holds so much significance in our society, there's going to be a lot of unfairness all around. But the battles they choose and the arguments they use... yeah. I'll have to make a post soon outlining common MRA arguments and rebuttals and such, it's good stuff.

Most of the time, MRAs just give me a headache with their smug, privileged ignorance. Oy. Give me a humanist over an MRA to argue with any day XD

I completely agree that gender roles hurt everyone, but these MRA people are not doing things in the right way.

egalitarianism fail!

this is just like the folks (like my parents) who believe that there is more reverse racial discrimination than actual racial discrimination. i can't roll my eyes any harder without them coming out of my head.

I know! It's pretty much what every article in The Daily Mail is all about, which some of these Men's rights group websites quote. People actually believe it, just like my parents.

Men ARE oppressed in many facettes of society.

No, I'm not less of a woman for granting them that.
They are.

When divorced, they are less likely to get the right to care for the child.
If they are, they are less likely to be able to actually care for the child or even see it if the mother abducts it.
It is more probable that a woman gets through with denying contact from the father to the kid.

Men are less likely to be believed if a woman accuses them of harrassment and similar. Sure, you can check rape, other things are more hard. In both cases, even if the guy is innocent, the call will stick.

If men are raped, and don't think that happens rarely, GASP! that can happen by women. Yes.
Do you think anyone takes them seriously? (even if they are raped by men, they aren't as protected as a woman would be).

The same with wifes who beat there husbands. They are almost never believed if the female isn't detected on action. Do you know how many men-sanctuaries there are in Germany? 1. With place for 10 guys.

The same if the wife beats the kid. Who goes to court and probably jail? The guy.

What is with male kindergardeners? Say you are one, they will call you pedo.

Knitting? Fag.

Crying in public? Don't even think about setting a food in front of your door again.

I had to make this list.
Of course women aren't responsible for all of that, of course that strange masculinism is disturbed, but that women still aren't equal to men in all facettes of society, it doesn't mean that men are happy all over too.

We are far, far away from equality on both sides.

I completely agree that men are oppressed in our society, I am a queer gentleman myself and have had a lot of shit to deal with. I don't think having a whole masculinist movement as an opposition to Feminism is a good idea though, it only strengthens the perceived differences between us. One of the main aims of Feminism is to bring equality and the oppression of men under patriarchy has been widely discussed in feminism.
