S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

http://www.stalker-game.com/

I've been looking for a stash. Apparently it's from a stalker that "choked".
I'm not even sure what that means, but I guess he's not going to need the
stash anymore. I leave the road and walk through the fields in the direction
that my pda indicates. There's a little purple icon where the stash is supposed
to be. There are some trees and brushes ahead. The place is littered with anomalies.
You can hardly see them. My detector gives warning beeps when I get too close.

Naturally the stash is right in the middle of them, otherwise it would be too easy.
It takes forever to navigate through the strange phenomena. A giant mutated boar,
its eyes glowing from radiation, comes towards me. I raise my double barreled shotgun
and aim for the head. But I needn't have bothered. The boar, distracted, doesn't see
the danger and walks into a gravitational anomaly that is right in front of me.
The beast is lifted up in the air and torn apart.

Finally I find the stash, a backpack, hardly visible in the tall grass.
It contains some supplies, nothing special. I head back towards the road.
It's taken so long to find the damn stash, it's becoming dark. Night falls quickly
in this place. Wild dogs are all around me, I hear them howl. But there's something
worse out there. An eerie sound not easily identifiable. I crouch next to a bush.
I don't want to turn on my flashlight, but there's something sitting there. Dead still,
looking in the other direction. That face! Bloody hell. What on earth is that?!

Creeping from cover to cover I move back to the road. Lightning lights up the sky.
Rains starts to pour. When I reach the road I hear shooting nearby. A firefight has
broken out, I have no idea who's shooting at whom. What shall I do? Cross the rail
track? Go back to the village? Investigate the shooting? My pda gives me no clue.

I know there's a fire in the village, with other stalkers sitting around it. One
of them plays guitar. Better go there for now.

In case you decide to play stalker: read the game guide. It's not for the faint of
heart.

Good game, sorta buggy when I first bought it, but they've worked most of the chinks out of it by now, Id recommend it to anyone who is looking for some FPS-style roleplaying. There is also a stand-alone expansion pack in the works called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

On the stalker forum I also picked up the rumor that there is a Stalker 2 project, not to be confused with Clear Sky. Clear Sky will be a prequel, so I guess Stalker 2 will be a sequel. I haven't been able to find info on Stalker 2.
