Fallout 3

Has anyone heard of the the Fallout series? It's a RPG and takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. The original series is quite old. Bethesda (creators of the Elder Scrolls series) is making another game based on the Fallout Series. This is the official site.

I haven't played the original games, but am looking forward to this one. It should be in stores quarter 4 2008 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

IGN has a bunch of screenshots.

Re: Fallout 3

I haven't heard of it, but if it's an RPG by the creator of Elder Scrolls, AND available on PS3...I'll definitely be buying it.

Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Fallout 3

I give a 70 ney...80 percent probability that Fallout 3 will be bad, it wont live up to the greatness of Fallout 1 and 2, and seriously how can you change a top-down isometric third person RPG game into a first person action-oriented game with light RPG elements and expect it to be good.

The average joe wont give a damn, but we Fallout fans will be and already are pretty damn pissed, I would suggest to anyone to play Fallout 1 and 2, this was back when RPGs were actually RPGs and not the light hearted action game with Role-playing elements we have now-a-days.

Bethesda used to be a great developer with Daggerfall and Morrowind, but Oblivion was let down that just showed that the quality of games are declining.

Okay, sorry for the rant, folks, just had to get that off my chest, and I find antimisandry.com a good place for ranting, even when its not relevant to acts of Misandry.

But yeah, if your looking for post-apocalyptic rpgs get the original Fallout games, or get the recent STALKER game....or go with Fallout 3 if your not a Fallout fan, and thought Oblivion was a good game.

Let it all out matey I feel your pain! I just about have a mini heart attack every time they delay a game I've been waiting for.

I've never really played any of the fallout games tbh but from what I hear they sound pretty good. I'm not a massive fan of rpgs since The Legend of Zelda on the snes so not sure if I'd get into it.

Fallout 3 is in stores for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It received high scores for the most part. Has anyone played it yet?

Re: Fallout 3

I thought Daggerfall was pretty good. And Morrowind was excellent, but I believe that Oblivion improved the story telling of the series and smoothing out the skills to be less anal was a nice touch.

Fallout 3 looks good for what it is, but ur right, it's nothing like the originals.

In all honesty it is pretty pish. That isn't to say others won't like it but I honestly can't stand it. Everyone told me it would be great once you get out the vault but it doesn't seem to have gotten better. Maybe it's just me since I haven't played fallout 1 or 2 I can't say if it's better or worse.

Why do you think so? How long have you played? Maybe you should play some more. Fallout 3 is not true sequel to Fallout 1, 2. It's more like a blend between Oblivion with a Fallout theme. I haven't tried it yet, but would like to.

Re: Fallout 3

I was initially surprised at just how intensely computer games folk took these games

but I guess it is a passion of the 21 century

I tthink in years to come with the advent of very high speed puters and games programming some folk will never leave their room except to go the the outhouse or fetch the mail haa ha ha

I played it for about an hour or so. It just seems so bland. The only decent thing about the game is the action shooting thingy majig! You press RB and it lets you pick out body parts to shoot.

A few of my mates who are further on than me have told me that you can accidentally skip massive portions of the story as well. I think it was supposed to be a design feature but they seem to have arsed it up. He says he skipped a part without even noticing until people were talking to him about stuff he hadn't done as if he had done it. Does that make sense?

Maybe it is just because I'm not a massive RPG fan but it just doesn't seem to live up to the hype that was surrounding it.

One hour isn't long. You should give it more time.

Yeah there are many ways to end the game. When you pick certain answers during conversations with NPCs you can change the quest-tree accordingly. So next time you play, you may get other side-quests with a somewhat different ending. This increases replayability. There are guides to prevent that you skip large portions of the questtree.

What did you expect then? Did you play the original games? Fallout 3 doesn't have the classic turn-based RPG style with isometric view. It's more like a blend between Oblivion and Fallout with a lot of Fallout in the mix.

BTW the main reason you leave the Vault is to find your father (who sacrifices himself to save humanity). That is a major plus point imo. The presentation of a respectful and smart father as the core story element.

I know an hour isn't to long I just couldn't really force myself to play it any longer. From what I had read it was supposed to be this amazingly immersive game with unique gameplay elements, but what I found was just a run of the mill rpg with some bland fps-style gameplay chucked in.

The story was a big plus point. It is rare to find a story which paints fathers in a GOOD light. I didn't post it before because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone.

I didn't play any of the original games so I can't compare it to the old ones.

I get what you aren't saying about guides to help you not skip portions of the game but doesn't it strike you as being bad game design? I mean what ever happened to playing a game without having to use a guide? Maybe I'm just nit picking but it seemed a massive problem that shouldn't of happened.
