Talking Dragon Age: Origins, fantasy RPG

Dragon Age: Origins is the latest fantasy RPG by Bioware. Been playing for over a dozen hours, and it takes a little bit to get into, but very enjoyable. Lots of lore, items, customization, sidequests and more. It's out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The best RPG of 2009.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins, fantasy RPG

I've installed this, and loaded it to make sure it works on my system, and it looks amazing.
I'm more of a turn-based RPG man, but having read a lot of reviews for the game, I'm willing to try it, I may surprise myself, who knows?

I've always preferred turn-based battles, like FFX, not like FF7, 8, or 9, I just like that when you use something like a potion, it gets used on the intended target, instead of the intended target dying first and then you throw a potion at the nearest person, that always annoyed me that, they have no right calling themselves turn-based.

I'm also playing Nostalgia on the DS, I've just started that, and the battle system is almost identical to FFX, so I'm loving that.
So many games, so little time.

I prefer real-time RPGs. In Dragon Age you can pause combat events at any time and give instructions to your characters. It's also possible to set a certain strategy for each character such as defensive or offense.

Thinking about it, I love Kingdom Hearts, the first one, and that's real time battles, I suppose it depends how they're done.
The strategies for each character are similar to the Gambit system in FFXII, I liked the Gambit system, very enjoyable.

I am so glad you posted this....I'm dying to get this game (PS3). It looks amazing and the reviews have been great. I haven't played an RPG I REALLY liked since FFX (with maybe the exception of Oblivion GOTY).

The first Kingdom Hearts was one of my favorites....not so much the second. The battle system for FFXII was good, but I was really disappointed in the story line. I kept waiting for it to get better and then it was over and I was going....that's it???

I don't mind wether it's realtime or turn-based, as long as there's a strategic aspect to it and a reasonable selection of gear is apreciated allot as well... Oh yeah... and a good plot always does it as well.

Can't get this game unfortunately... Wii user lol

I thought Vaan was a crap main character, he had no real personality.
Did you like FFX-2, Kim? It's just women in the game as playable characters, and they use "Dress Spheres", which sounds enough to put any man off, but I enjoyed it, it was different, and certainly not too easy, the Blitzball is much better in it as well.

Anyway, about Dragon Age, I'm playing it, and really enjoying, engrossing stuff, superb voice acting (I'm a sucker for Ye Olde English), but I'm having a problem, there seems to be a limited number of enemies, there's nowhere I can find where enemies respawn so as I can level up before moving on.
Everything else is fine apart from that, and the fact there's no optimise equipment option, but I'm not too far into the game, I've only just got that green guy in my team, can't recall his name, he was in a cage, so I'm wondering, is there a point in the game where I can battle as often as I want before moving on? That's the whole point of an RPG to me, this one just seems to be very limited in the enemies.

I did play FFX-2. It was o.k.. Game play and graphics were good. I wanted Luna to spend more time trying to find Tidus and would have preferred that to have been more of a central theme to the game. It was all just a bit...hmm....vapid, IMO, especially compared with FFX.

lol, no, that's not it. It's that I have a really vivid imagination and I make a picture in my mind of everyone, including mannerisms and stuff. A gamepad didn't fit yours. ha.

Besides, it is pretty unusual for someone like you to play video games, just saying. :P
