The Crysis singleplayer demo weighs 1.7 gigabytes and includes the sandbox editor. You can visit the official site http://www.ea.com/crysis/ or a fansite hxxp://www.incrysis.com/ if you don't know what Crysis is. It's possible to have directx 10 effects if you don't use windows vista. This is how:

I've downloaded the demo, had a quick go, will finish it tomorrow, (I'm ill see lol.)

Seems ok so far, definitely a system hog. Thanks for the DX10 info, I'll have to give this a go :-p not that my pc can handle it.

Just thinking, wouldn't it be great to have a MRA-styled video game that puts you in the world of the Matriarchal, feminist society, with some interesting twists.

The way computer and game development is nowadays it wouldn't be hard to this thing entirely independently and distribute it for free.

Yeah that is an interesting idea. Currently though I'm concentrating my efforts on select things, I get a habit of trying to follow too many things at once and spreading myself too thinly.

Can't say I like it much, I can only play it on medium quality and it doesn't look all that hot. Also the frame rate is too low. I have 3GB ram and dual core amd 6000+ cpu, but my card is a 7600 GS and I guess that's just not powerful enough.

I've read that DX10 for WinXP is a myth. DX10 requires a completely different driver model that cannot be emulated on XP. Also you need a DX10 enabled graphics card. What the quoted settings do is unlock certain quality settings. It's not actually DX10. Nevertheless nice to know.

I'm holding off on Crysis, like I did with BioShock, until I got myself a NVidia G92 card. Out in November, I believe.

Anybody here buy the Orange Box, by the way? Play Portal yet? If you like puzzles, you might want to try it. It's a little master piece, in my opinion.

The demo is short and nothing new really. So I don't miind waiting till the price drops, and I update my rig.

I'm waiting for a few other high profile FPS's to come out, the price of Bioshock will drop and I'll swoop in

Was thinking about buying STALKER, seems like a decent shooter, and for £10 on play.com

Speaking of shooters and portals, I strongly suggest a game called Prey. Completely underrated!

I played the demo. The guy gets sucked into a spaceship, right? With his girlfriend and his grandfather. His girl is hauled away and his grandfather is savagely butchered in front of his eyes. Then five minutes later, he finds some sort of ramp on the ship and slides down. Whooeeeh, he goes, like a seven year old in the playground. So much for empathy. He's already forgotten that his grandfather just died.

Also, the spaceship looked more like a Mexican whorehouse to me than an advanced piece of technology :-)

I'm sure it's a fun game though. I've read good reviews on it. It's just not my thing, I guess.

Found an interesting comparison between DX9 and DX10 graphics on Crysis. Seems like it doesn't make much difference.

Prey starts off strangely, but all the art design makes sense a little ways into it.

It's probably a fiver online now.
