"Who's The New Head of the Household?"
Article here (don't forget to leave a comment. Despite the nauseating, gender-baiting headline, the story isn't quite as misandrist as you might expect. It is, however, full of the usual nonsense about how great it is that more and more men are losing their livelihoods and the antiquated, sexist notion that men somehow owe women a lifetime of support.

Re: "Who's The New Head of the Household?"
For women, this role reversal can be just as emotionally challenging and psychologically threatening. She has not only lost her Prince Charming – the one person who was supposed to protect and defend and provide “forever after”, but there is increasing financial pressure and stress on her as well. And those kids still have to be fed, clothed and educated.
So....now that he is having employment problems she has "Lost her prince charming"? In otherwords he is of absoultely no agency other than to fullfill her needs?
I take all of these social changes rather personally. My husband was also one of the casualties of the recession. He was co-owner of a small investor relations firm that specialized in the resource field, another sector that was also hard hit by the economic downturn. Trying to turn a crisis into an opportunity, he went back to his first love of copywriting and teaching history (waynemelvin.ca), which I fully supported. But I gotta say – the bucks are skinner and there’s now more pressure on my income to make ends meet. I’m ok with this – sorta, kinda, maybe….
Unbelievable! What a cynical bitch.Do not ever suppose that a small group of people can never change the world. INDEED it is the only thing that ever has.

Re: "Who's The New Head of the Household?"
Equality will be achieved when it is societally 'normal' and Expected that a woman provide for an adult male. That means she is the one that brings home the earned money. She is the one that does the heavy lifting. She is the one who is told that she must do a double-shift by 'helping' him with the housework. She must also accept it when she is told by him that her household efforts are inadequate no matter how much she does nor how well.
She must do the gutters and the lawns. She must do all the dirty and dangerous jobs. She must get rid of the funnel-web spiders and the Huntsmen and chase the Kangaroos off the property.
Somehow I doubt we will ever achieve equality.

I think she has a point, i wouldnt call it a "new world order" as she says, but its definitely something to think about, after this will more men realize they prefer to stay home with the kids, and not have the stress of a 9-5 job? will we find it more acceptable for men to be staying at home once the recession is over, simply based on the fact we are so used to it we dont question it anymore?
i dont want to say the recession is a good thing by any means but i am curious about what social outcome it has once its overall men by nature desire to know-aristotle
