Sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity

Last Friday I went out on a job interview. The interview was in a large metropolitan city building. I approached the building door and opened it for a couple young women who were a couple steps behind me. The chubby blond scowled at me and said "what a fucking Misogynist you are!!" and entered the door. I burst out laughing as I entered the building, the chubby blond woman said "do you find that funny???" with a snarl. I smiled at her and said "why don't you look up the meaning of "Misogynist" on your blackberry. "If I were a Misogynist, I certainly would not have opened the door for you and your friend".

I shook my head and chuckled as I got on the escalator. Sometimes you have to laugh at the absurd behavior you see.

*disclaimer: I mean ugly personality, such as assuming a man is a 'woman hater' purely for holding the doors open for a woman.

That these women called you a misogynist for merely opening a door for them is odd, to say the least. I've found that, for example, when I am approaching a door diagonally, and a group of others is approaching the same door from the front (and I'm going to reach it a split second before them), if I open the door for them they thank me.

Granted, I don't live in some impersonal, impatient, unneighborly metropolis hell like New York, but still.

And it's not uncommon to hear of men who women find highly desirable acting in this chivalrous way. At the moment, I can think of Antonio Banderas. But really, anybody going for the "Gentleman" approach.

The only reason I open doors for women is so I can let them go if they don't smile at me before they're half-way through, and then I get to watch it hit them in the face.

I appreciate it when people hold doors open for me, I find assholes like these to be terrible creatures. Hell, I open doors for others regardless of their sex.

I have noticed that holding doors open for women is hit or miss, either I get a "thank you" or a scowl. I was brought up to observe the social aspects of being helpful and nice to others. When I was in college I worked the door at a nightclub and got my fill of vileness from drugged out, drunk, and also sober young girls. When I got promoted to a bouncer it was twice as bad. When ever 2 girls started fighting (physically) the house rule was that the bouncer and cooler (Head Bouncer) had to intervene together for liability purposes. Anyway, I learned to laugh it all off.

I hold the door for everyone and thank everyone that holds it for me.

Kindness and manners is gender neutral, the last time I checked.

I would of said to her " Would you rather me let the door hit her in the face, deary?".

Nice. But you see HM, the issue is usually only when MEN do it. If a woman does it, I would find it highly unlikely that you'd (she) would get the kill all the evil menz look that most men get. Not to belittle your comment but just saying...
