    A rarity at Feministing

Or at least in my opinion it's a rarity, because I have accused them of repeatedly ignoring overseas women. I'm basing that on seeing what they post, which is usually 99% of what happens in North America.

    Re: A rarity at Feministing

Ironically, I was watching a emotive piece yesterday about the Afghan men's cricket club, how they performed so well on the international stage and represented their people after starting from nothing. BBC iPlayer - Storyville: 2010-2011: Afghan Cricket Club - Out of the Ashes

Afghan women boxing in the summer Olympics, like the male cricket team, is more a national pride thing for a country which has been so beset with every conceivable problem, seeking to reestablish their national identity. Like the male Afghan cricketers, when the female boxers come out fighting they'll be representing their country, not an ideology. And I'll be cheering them on and urging others to do the same. Monies need to be invested. Hey, what about the western feminists with all their resources funding these female boxers? As an MRA I'm offering more support than the whole feminist world thus far.

I was surprised when I saw that article too although to me this is just a human triumph (not a feminist one). As an MRA I am glad to see any woman succeed (excluding the successes of being a feminist or privileged princess or well you know).

Indeed, given the circumstances, we shouldn't need to ascribe an 'ism' to what is right and necessary in the hearts of all good men. All the best to these Afghan women.

I was moved watching how Afghanistan's male cricketers won international recognition despite all the personal hardships. It came after hearing about the first woman to represent Afghanistan in the London Olympics. First Afghan female athlete to box in London olympics - KHAAMA PRESS | Afghan Online Newspaper I want to carry on supporting a burgeoning nation in expressing itself idealistically and beyond.

When I learned there was only one female boxer, Sadaf Rahimi, representing Afghanistan, then I knew I had to be part of her country's struggle for international recognition. I'm a sucker for the underdog, let's give her support where we can.

If anything, we should! These are women who have had to work super hard just to get that far in life, and if anything, they are probably more appreciative of these opportunities than most women.

A bit OT here, but has anyone noticed that with Africa and Asia that they've had a total of 32 female leaders* between the two of them, compared to the scant few in North America?

It also demonstrates the economic difference between what third-world women endure vs the white middle-classed 'daddy's girls' who complain the most as radical feminists. Most of them ironically have benefited from a patriarchal model of father paying for everything! You just can't take them seriously.

Sure, like many indigenous men, but my point is that it doesn't need an 'ism' to resolve it. It isn't an argument that women in third-world countries should be helped, but in what form does that 'help' take?
