I don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying that you agree with the message of the video, or that you don't?

I had this kind of guilt complex dumped on me in my teens, and I carried it all thru my twenties and thirties. Recently, I've started to feel what is like to be free of it. I'm not responsible for harm done to women, I'm not going to carry the guilt for it any more. If I'm going to "step up", then I'm going to do so for men.

There are women who are harmed in abusive relationships, in fact, I've witnessed it first hand. But there are also countless men who are harmed by women, and society does not recognize their suffering, and these men have no voice.

In the ideal situation, it is the right thing to do to step up for whoever is being abused, man or woman. Abuse in and of itself isn't really a men's issue or a women's issue but a human issue. However, the reason this is a men's issue is because both men and women are abusers and both are abused but we men are specifically being targeted and ignored to put women on a pedestal, as usual. It just so happens that since everyone else is already "stepping up" for women and that no one else is really "stepping up" for men that men are forced to look after each other or to look after ourselves.

I understand what people mean when they say that some of us sound like feminists (on the surface) when we say we're all about helping men (and not women). Isn't feminism all about "helping" women and ignoring men?

What those people fail to or don't care to understand is that:

• Women are the only sex receiving such sympathy whether they are victims or perpetrators.
• Women are far more effectively getting their issues addressed than men are getting men's issues addressed. (it's not just politicians doing this)
• Men are the only ones being targeted to stop violence (unless we are told to die and kill each other in wars that aren't even our battles).
• Women are disproportionately more interested in women's issues than men are interested in men's issues.
• Most people don't want to help men at all or they at least prefer helping a woman to helping a man.

So in order to efficiently help men we have to focus primarily on men's issues. Women are already the center of attention so any time we spend on "women's issues" doesn't really combat mistreatment of women but it hinders us from combating misandry against men. Women are receiving more attention and advantages over men but the focus is solely on them and many men and women want to keep it this way.

So in order to combat misandry we don't necessarily need to ignore the fact that women are abused but we can't allow it to take the focus away from our own issues. Men are abused and misandrists (man and woman alike) certainly don't allow that fact to take attention and focus away from women.

I have the view that folks are quite capable of making their own rules in their own relationships, and rarely do they appreciate folks, or the state, sticking their snouts in where its not welcome.. Ever tried getting someone out of an abusive relationship? You will lose a friend most of the time.. Seems some people are suckers for punishment.. I always step in when I see someone getting bashed in public.. (as long as it's a woman doing the bashing! which it INVARIABLY is!)

I'm saying that I disagree with the video and saying that "don't put you hands on a woman" is very sexist not only to men but to women as well. It's says that "men are evil and always resort to violence and that women are weak and should treated like kids". It's sexist more so to men because it also implies that men could never defend themselves against an abusive woman. If they do, they are guilty!1!!

I very much agree with what you say in this post. I wonder how much people agree with this in theory but not in practice.

The sad part is that these are men that men look up to (e.g. nba player Jeremy Lin).
