Now, now, dad_savage, I don't recognize you at all. Actually, I believe he hit her pretty hard from the looks of it.

Here's another example of why equality can never be realized: society is instinctively more protective of its women than its men. If she hits him in public, he will be laughed at. If he hits back, everybody will be angry with him. Either way she wins, he loses.

Even when boys and girls are taught not to hit each other, the response when either of them breaks the rules, will be different.

Also, girls will be better able to find subtle ways to be violent: verbal, psychological, sexual. And they can easier delegate the violence. Not to mention their greater ability to make false allegations.

The traditional gender roles and conventions were designed to reflect these intrinsic differences, the equality roles are not.
