Doing Feminism: Are you an MRA?

Quote:

Oh, Men’s Rights Activists: Where would we be without you? Well, on numerous occasions, my blog stats would have been a lot lower (and they’ll probably be much higher after I post this). I’m afraid the benefits - for me, at least - don’t extend beyond that. MRAs are, ultimately, harmful to many goals for equality, and, perhaps worse, are harmful to their own cause: No one wants to grant more “freedoms” (I hear that’s what they call them) to assholes. Of course, I don’t want to discount the good intentions of many men who are combating injustices committed against them, such as violence against men, or, at times the unfair treatment they receive in court systems, especially regarding custody battles - these are, I feel, legitimate concerns when dealt with properly (i.e. by not distorting statistics). To avoid confusion, these men may be referred to as feminists, or pro-feminists, or, to ensure maximum comfort, feminist-friendly men. These men are not assholes. MRAs are assholes. So, to avoid being a terribly misguided, misogynist, MRA douchebag, here’s an easy guide to help you find out if you already are one:

1. You believe laws against violence against women abuse men’s rights.

As an MRA, you believe that pieces of legislation such as the Violence Against Women Act are harmful to men, as they restrict men’s traditional rights. By “traditional rights,” I mean, of course, the rights to beat, rape, emotionally and psychologically abuse, or otherwise harm your wife. As laws aiming to reduce rates of violence against women see these as generally negative things, of course you feel you’re being oppressed! Who wouldn’t?

2. You believe rates of domestic violence against men and women are equal.

Despite the number of studies that indicate otherwise, as an MRA, you assert this is nothing but liberal propaganda put forward by the man-hating feminazis. You may even cite the Conflict Tactics Scale, ignoring the evidence indicating its unreliability.

3. You prefer data collected prior to 1990.

Indeed, why rely on reliable data when using outdated information supports your arguments?

4. You believe men should have a say in the result of a partner’s pregnancy.

Coined “Choice for Men,” as an MRA, you assert that it is unfair that men do not have a legal say on what women can do with their bodies. You are pro-choice if you don’t want to carry the burden of a child, and you are anti-choice if you wish to see your contribution (read: sperm) come to fruition.

5. You believe that, should your partner go through with the pregnancy against your will, you should be able to financially “opt-out.”

Since men don’t have a say in what a woman does with her body, they should be able to stop any financial contributions for the child, right? Never mind the fact that single mothers are the most at-risk group for poverty.

6. You assert that in rape allegations that don’t result in convictions, women should be charged.

Beliefs like this are really going to help the rate of rape reportage. Here in Canada, the rate is eight percent.

7. Upon seeing this post, you will feel an incredible urge to be a troll.

This one speaks for itself, I think.
If you’re in agreement with some of these points, you may be an MRA. If you follow all of them… Well, let’s just say I hope we never meet, unless I have some douche cards with me.

Thanks to Jeff’s post, which was a good resource for writing this.

Re: Doing Feminism: Are you an MRA?

Crap.

It sickens me that people sit on the outside and judge. I wish they would listen to the feminists who do the work. Then they would see that women NEED to be held responsible.

In NZ, women are getting sick and tired of all this preferential treatment.

White men are no good. White women are no good either.

Is this all these people have? A small group of others to put down to keep their jobs going? They just use women issues to line their own pockets. The MRA are better friends to women than the feminist men. And that is a fact I see day after day.

Julie,

No offense intended at all, but how are MRA's 'better friends to women' than feminists are to men? Please post some evidence of this because I'm not seeing it. I'd like to believe that. So if you have something you could share with us along those lines I'd be grateful to hear it. I need a little inspiration here.

The MRA men you hear from here and on other sites if you visit them are letting off steam. And at the same time they follow up on the men who cry out for help.

There is so much more to this movement than you see. There is a lot of action.

The difference with the MRA men and the feminists is that the feminists close the doors for any sort of male participation. In the 80's and early 90's before the second wave of feminism the women were able to work with men. It is as if the feminists deliberately stop the genders from working together.

The MRA men don't do this. They don't separate the genders but bring them together especially regarding family court issues.

The lawyers are an enemy to the MRA. The lawyers only want to win a case and the feminists pick lawyers who will win the most cases for the women. This destroys the families. They won't allow the women to deal with their anger either. Nor resolve issues in the relationship. But women who work in the refuges do this behind the back of the feminists. These are family women and understand the hardships of families. I would say that the majority of women who do feminist training are anti feminist ideology but want to help the community so they shut their mouths.

The MRA has not been poisoned this way. They do not use lawyers who almost force women into using the power of accusing abuse. These lawyers are not in it to win but to help families. I get many women coming to me saying, "The counsellor say we must go to court and get a custody orders to stop daddy from kidnapping the child". "The lawyer says I have to find past abuse but I don't want to".

Dads can't kidnap their children no more than mothers can kidnap their children. A parent is not able to kidnap their children. They are their children. They belong to mum and dad. The majority of dads are not out to take the children off the mother. They want to be a part of their child's life. Just like you and I do as mothers.

But this is feminism. Feminism divides mums and dads.

The MRA does not do this. And in fact they work with grandparents as well as mothers. You see, even grandparents don't have rights to their grandchildren.

Feminism is taking the kids off everyone except the mothers. And then they will take the children off the mothers by forcing them to go to work.

Feminism is the enemy of the family. The MRA are pro the family even if it is a single parent family.

Well done Jools. I get the strong impression that TERA is one of those 35 going on 14 y/os who comes with a huge amount of baggage and a completely closed mind. She asks faux-naive questions which show clearly that she hasn't bothered to read the wealth of information out there and in here. God alone knows what her lit searches are like.

TERA is ideally suited to be a 'counsellor' preferred by the Family Court where she can be yet another of the rent-seekers living off the misery of others and the confiscated meagre wealth of hard working families that she will help to break up.

My good friend Amfortas would probably put her to the sword along with all the other 'rent-seeking scum', as he calls them.

TERA, go away and spend some time talking with sound women like Teri Tersack at True Equality Net. You might learn something.

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up.
I am outnumbered.
But...
YOU don't just make a difference,
you make THE difference.

Percy, I guess we have to sow the seeds as you said, time and time again.
Tera, can't see past herself as a mother.

Tera, turn the tables. Step inside the man's shoes. He is a human being. Not anything more or anything less. He breathes and eats an hurts and needs love and encouragement and every single thing that you as a human being needs.

And that is what you need to understand to be an equalist. No "I am a woman and I have rights".

Just plain and simple, "I am a human being. I live, I die. I love and I feel pain. When a knife is at my throat, I feel everything you do. And every single man feels the same way when a knife is at his throat".

That is what an equalist is.

Feminuts are stupid, throw some common sense at them. They won't know what hit them.

Re: Doing Feminism: Are you an MRA?

Julie you get it!

That is simply totally it right here (*my emphasis):

Quote:

Tera

Because for a start, we tell the truth. Tera. The men who tell you feminism is just great, are dishonest crawlers with ulterior motives. Anyone who tells the truth these days wont win friends. What kind of friend though, tells you what they know you want to hear -a liar.

The reason I am here is because I have witnessed feminists deliberately spreading dissension and hate among the sexes. MOST MEN DONT WANT THIS. Neither do I ,one of the saddest things about feminism for me is the loss of female friendship and camaraderie.Because feminism teaches women to hate and mistrust men and many many women do (is it because feminism plays on fear?), many have told me this bluntly and many many thousands of times !

WANT RESPECT FOR WOMEN - RESPECT MEN its a two way street and until more women acknowledge what Julie, just has things will get much much worse.

Here is a challenge for you -Tera invite a group of girl freinds round. Have a laugh tell them in the course of the evening that you" think men are scum and should be put to sleep." See what they say.
I would bet not one would raise a serious word of protest - so widespread is misandry.
If challenged they would say "oh its just a bit of fun. "
If you dare try saying the same thing at another outing, about any other group under the sun.

feminism is a disease the Doc is working on a cure. Symptoms include compulsive liar, constant aggression, allergic to logic, often affects women who are fat with short hair and big earings, but can be normal looking.
Reason tablets three taken daily. If the sufferer displays shaming tactics double the dose. Remarkably the illness disappears in disaster zones.
