This really pisses me off! 2-11 Year old girls fight, one dies afterwards and the fucking media is using scare quotes saying the fight was over a boy. Somehow the media JUST HAD to place blame on boys. They couldn't say 2 girls were in a fight and one died later, they HAD TO SOMEHOW BLAME BOYS for the fight and subsequent death of a girl.

I am just so sick of this shit. Media bashing of boys and men at the drop of a feather.

Wow, a male has to be blamed somehow, right?

I think that in fairness, had the fight been over a pair of “Trainers,” that would also have been mentioned, people want to know what the fight was about, I think that we are going over the top here.

If it's mentioned that is one thing but it is the headline. Shouldn't the real news be that a girl dies after a fight?

Any good reporter would put the reason for the fight, I would, and I aren`t even a reporter by profession.

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions but the media causes nothing but confusion.

All they need is a "story".

It's done deliberately. It's subliminal.

Ones like this will be soon used as reasons why girls should not interact with boys, 'they only cause problems', as if it's our fault girls can't control themselves. A similar logic would be when two guys beat one another senseless and someone says "over a girl". However, we typically don't blame the girl (unless she is purposely fucking with them and directly causing the problem) nor do we then use it to suggest all men stay away from women... Somehow, I suspect they will use this as 'proof' that interacting with boys / men breaks up 'teh sisturhood'.

When will people wake up and realize that women aren't born victims. They are capable of about any emotion and response most men have...

I think placement is also important. "Over a boy" is at the end of the headline on purpose. It would stick out as much if it read "Hours after fight with class mate 'over boy' girl, 11, dies in hospital". Now it's about the severity of the fight and makes the reason for the fight seem stupid.

It is poor journalism. Popular media has to sensationalise everything - give it an 'angle' - so I don't think there was any intention to demonise the boy or boys in general. We are forgetting that an 11 year-old child has been killed here. I have a niece around the same age and I would be devastated if anything happened to her, so spare a thought for her family and friends who must be going through hell.
