The same reason "Acheybreaky Heart" became a nation-wide phenomenon. A bunch of ignorant Americans jump on the bandwagon because of a catchy beat and a "cool" image. Ten years from now, chances are we'll see it just as stupid as we see it now.

Music these days has basically turned into something "sound-based" rather than the skilled musicians who can write great lyrics and create a different unique sound. It's commercialized the same way every trend becomes. Such commercialization and advertisement from the music industry push it into existence, like new wave emo that's complete shit. Even metal fell victim to this.

Blame corporate America and the people who enjoy greed over all else.

There are many reasons WHY people like this. The easiest WHY is the teens and such who are trying to flesh and express themselves outward, so they find what is popular and pick out the things they like. They want to be seen as "cool", so they find what's cool and jump in. That's pretty obvious honestly.

Then it can just be a cultural thing. Black people have sort of degraded themselves with such things that it's accepted as normalcy, similar to how men have become downsized and demonized. It becomes so common that we accept it as everyday life, ignoring whether it may be right or wrong.
