'There's no such thing as a glass ceiling': Dragons' Den star hits out at myth of rising to the top

Dragons' Den star Hilary Devey: 'There's no such thing as a glass ceiling' | Mail Online
Dragons’ Den star Hilary Devey has spoken out against the idea of a glass ceiling, claiming it is a ‘myth’ and an ‘excuse’ for women’s own failings in the business world.
Despite admitting she struggled to balance her own work and family life, the 55-year-old, who is worth £50million, said she is ‘living proof’ women can rise to the top in the workplace.
Breaking ranks with her peers, she told Radio Times: ‘There are lots of myths about why women are under-represented in the boardroom, but the excuse about a ‘glass ceiling’ is the worst.
'I am living proof there’s no such thing.’
The daughter of a pub landlord founded Pall-Ex 16 years ago, a haulage firm which now has a £100million turnover. She joined BBC 2’s business show last year for two series.
The mother-of-one conceded women ‘still have to sacrifice more than their male counterparts’, but said:
‘The sooner we stop complaining about our biological differences and get down to work, the sooner more women will rise to the top.’
The above statement won't sit well with the uneducated trollops who blame their lack of talent and life's pathetic failings on the entire male gender.Greed is for amateurs.

There's been an increasing number of women over the years who have made their mark in business and have no fear in stating the facts; the [insert feminist lies] is a myth.

I have been saying for years that there are more than enough successful women about to well and truly shatter the myth of the 'glass ceiling'. Many even do it without concessions that discriminate against men.
No doubt Hilary Devey will be condemned as a traitor by the sisterhood.Feminism : The world's most effective contraceptive.

Re: 'There's no such thing as a glass ceiling!
Interesting double standard, how feminist propaganda will uphold past women's accomplishments and call them "sacrifice", thus apparently elevating those individuals into an above-and-beyond level of heroine-worship eligibility.
And now, those same campaigns extolling "sacrifice" and "hardship" as measures of women's capabilities, would have younger women protected and propelled by quotas and affirmative action that call on no such things.
Does this mean the older sisterhood is setting up the younger sisterhood for an internal prejudice among feminist reformers against the very beneficiaries of their own activism?
This is a permanent historic dilemma in the wake of fights won and struggles endured, that those who were "in the trenches" hold superior claim on the gains thus made, than those who were not. I wonder how this will affect natural tendencies toward rivalries and constant comparisons between women that occur anyway, once younger women begin to receive entitlements for which they have not "sacrificed".
Perhaps this is why the glass ceiling mantra, and other mythologies of feminist revisionism, are maintained?skype: techno.skept

Yes, the "sistahood" will scorn her and brand her a traitor just like they
did to the CEO of Yahoo. It's actually common for the "sistahood" to practice friendly fire since the second wave and third wave feminists have conflicting view points. The media doesn't like to shed any light on this ugly fact.

Success doesn't come from feminism, it comes from hard work and dedication. The glass ceiling wasn't there to begin with.

Re: 'There's no such thing as a glass ceiling!
All of the above is where the thin veneer of historic logic begins to erode from the surface of feminist theory.
Referring back to a prior post where I invite everyone to play "heads, women win, tails, men lose", it looks like this trick may be the only rhetorical cover feminist propaganda has to offer: that being a woman, in itself, is a sacrifice because of the nature of a woman's personal maintenance, reproductive health and risk of various conditions uniquely threatening women (not least of which, as in France, is apparently the ongoing risk of being admired for being attractive to look at.)
But flip the coin, after a glance or two seem as if the other side of it was saying "women are inferior because of their bodies", then the other mantra is deployed: that women, being actually superior because of their anatomy, actually need nothing at all from men.
And when that argument fails after a drop or two to hold water, the coin is re-flipped, and back, and again, and back...Last edited by Rof L Mao Esq; 29th-August-2012 at 07:48 PM.

Re: 'There's no such thing as a glass ceiling!
So, what's it called for the septic-tank cleaners and school janitors and plumber's assistants?
The concrete floor of the third sub-basement? At least the glass ceiling has a view.
And besides, even given total success in affirmative action in righting these wrongs real or invented, how many actual women does this stand to benefit?
So then, the rest have as a promised future:
languishing under the insular, self-obsessed, power-mad Ivy League women who are now obsessing over joining Augusta Golf Club?
So, it's better to serve as lackeys under sorority sisters than frat boys, right?

Yeah, she sounds real worried about that.
When I was blogging and got a piece of hate mail or a death threat or was accused of having Stockholm Syndrome, I counted it as a badge of honor. They hate it when a woman not only doesn't use any of the artifical advantages to make it, she condemns them as well as something women don't need.
