From The Courier Press:

Police say ex-educator confesses to sex with teen

The former principal of a Catholic school in Daviess County, Ky.,
confessed to having sex with a teenager during last winter's ice
storm, according to an arrest affidavit.

Allison Brant, 31, is to be arraigned today in an Owensboro
courtroom on one count of third-degree rape and three counts
of third-degree sodomy.

In an unrelated matter, she also faces misdemeanor charges for
allegedly giving alcohol to four teen boys on Sept. 4.

She resigned last week as principal of Saint Mary of the Woods School amid a Kentucky State Police probe of her conduct.

Detective Brian Whittaker investigated the sex allegations. He wrote in an affidavit that both Brant and the 15-year-old boy told him the incidents occurred as the region was stymied by the ice storm.

The two met at the boy's home and at Brant's, according to the affidavit.

Saint Mary of the Woods has students in preschool to eighth grade.

Students then move on to Trinity High School. Both schools are in Whitesville, a community of about 600 people.

Police have not confirmed where the 15-year-old boy attends school, or where the four boys Brant allegedly gave alcohol to last month attend. They are aged 16-18.

All felony cases in Kentucky are considered by county grand juries before charges are formally filed.

Daviess County Commonwealth's Attorney Bruce Kuegel, who declined Thursday to discuss specifics of Brant's case, said if Brant is indicted on the felony counts, those cases would be adjudicated in Daviess Circuit Court.

The misdemeanor charges of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor are to be handled in Daviess District Court.

Brant was arrested Wednesday and later released from the Daviess County Detention Center, pending her court appearances. Her bond is $37,000.

Diocese of Owensboro officials learned of allegations of misconduct involving Brant last week. They say they contacted authorities within 24 hours.

The Rev. Michael Clark, administrator of the diocese, said Brant had been thought of as a model educator.

She came to Saint Mary of the Woods as a teacher in 2000 and became principal in 2006.
