CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The mother of a boy who had a sexual relationship with a teacher at Kent County High School is suing the teacher and the county Board of Education.
The plaintiff is not being named to shield the identity of her son.
According to court documents, she's seeking $250,000 each from Kimberly Cordrey-McKinney and the board of education.
The lawsuit claimed the boy suffered mental anguish and has incurred huge medical bills as a result of the abuse.
It claims the board of education was negligent when it placed Cordrey-McKinney in a teaching position.
The board of education has filed a motion to dismiss. The motion argues, among other things, that the suit doesn't explain how the board should have known that Cordrey-McKinney would commit acts of sexual abuse.
Cordrey-McKinney was convicted of committing an unnatural and perverted sexual act with a 16-year-old boy. She received a five-year suspended sentence.
Notice how the author wrote the headline "Mother Of Boy Who Had Sex With Teacher Sues" instead of "Teacher who sexually abused boy is sued".
