Child molestation trial continues for So. Ind. woman

The trial of a southern Indiana woman facing up to 277 years
in prison for allegedly molesting two 12 year old boys continued
Monday.

The victims' mothers testified, one of them said Sheila Granger
was her best friend and confidant. She never thought she was
involved with her son.

"Never in her wildest dreams" did she think Sheila Granger would
violate her son.

That's how one victim's mother described, through tears, how she felt about a woman she said she thought she could trust.

From August 2007 to August 2008, she thought the time her son spent with Granger, was innocent and based on her conversations with Granger, she thought Granger was cheating on her husband and happy with another man.

That was until she found out through a probable cause affadavit that Sheila Granger was having sex with her son.

The other victim's mother said she too trusted Granger as a mother figure.

Her son played football for Granger's husband and dated Granger's daughter and her son spent a lot of time at Granger's house.

But when she saw Granger and her son arguing and realized they were arguing as if they were in a relationship, she forbade the two from seeing each other.

When she confronted Granger, she says Granger admitted to molesting the boys.

The defense attorney questioned both mothers about why they would let their young sons spend so much time with an older woman many times leaving the their sons alone with Granger in a bedroom.

Both mother's said they didn't expect anything sexual was happening with Granger and their sons.

He asked, why did they let Granger buy their children gifts? They said they thought it was harmless.

And the defense attorney asked one mother, why did she invite Granger's husband, who allegedly knew about her son and his wife, to a barbecue after all of this came out?

She said she wanted to give him a chance.

The defense attorney asked the judge not to turn the case over to the jury because he says the victims made inconsistent statements sometimes denying anything had happened.

Judge Vicki Carmichael denied the request and expects the case to go to the jury on Thursday.
