The word 'Father' to be removed from birth cetificates
Heath Gilmore
May 18, 2008
A CONTROVERSIAL new bill that will remove the word "father" from birth certificates to recognise lesbian couples who have children through IVF will be put before NSW Parliament.
Fifty laws across NSW covering the Local Government Act, Industrial Relations Act and the constitution will be amended to include new parental presumption protection for female same-sex couples.
The bill equates the position of a lesbian partner of a woman who has a child after becoming pregnant by a fertilisation procedure, other than sexual intercourse, with the position of a married woman's husband. Lesbian parents will see expressions such as "birth mother" replace "mother" and "both parents" to replace "the father and the mother" on birth certificates.
Lesbian parents will also be given protection for their children under workers' compensation, inheritance law and parent-teacher nights at school. Schools will also be forced to recognise both partners in a lesbian couple as "parents".
However, a number of NSW Coalition MPs have deep moral concerns about the bill. On Tuesday the Coalition voted to give members a conscience vote on the issue. Shadow Attorney-General Greg Smith said some MPs were concerned that the role of fatherhood was undermined by the bill, which is expected to be debated this parliamentary session. It is understood Mr Smith proposed the conscience vote.
Minister for Women Verity Firth said the Opposition's decision to hold a conscience vote on laws to give equal rights to the children of same-sex couples was evidence of the Opposition's lack of leadership.
The conservative Australian Family Association is campaigning against the change.
Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby spokeswoman Emily Gray said the changes would give children added emotional and financial stability.

Re: The word 'Father' to be removed from birth cetificates
I'm sure lesbian couples make up well less than half of the couples out there, so why would they remove the rights of the majority for the minority?

They destroy families and use real children like some kind of dolls so that two perverts can play house. And they wonder why decent people would beat the crap out of the faggots. DUH!

Re: The word 'Father' to be removed from birth cetificates
MINORITY rules again!!! I am so sick of society catering to noisy, militant minority groups. It would be one thing to have alternate birth certificates for sodomites, but changing all birth certificates (and doing away with "Mommy" and "Daddy" being used in schools, etc.) is an egregious crime.
Why does the majority put up with such nonsense? It's probably just that our leaders are cowards and cave in to pressure easily. Plus, I think the average westerner is completely brainwashed from being brow beaten with political correctness 24/7/365."Rights for women and responsibilities for men is really license for women, slavery for men, and liberty for neither. Even so, what about gay men who have children? Neither of their names will be on the birth certificate?

Reading this article, I do not know if I should laugh or cry.
It's - I do not know what to say - it is idiotic.
Often I think, this fertilisation procedure for 2 lesbian women to produce 'their' children together with a sperm-donor should be made illegal.
Beside that, there are plenty of children from poor countries, who need help - why should be produce additional children 'artificially'?
I also think, medical doctors should better do jobs to assist 'sick people' who really need medical help.
To become pregnant with the help of a sperm-donor is not an illness, same is true with abortion in most cases.
Finally I can only say it again and again - my message to all young men:
NO MARRIAGE, NO CHILDREN, and of course NEVER consider - out of what reason ever - donating of sperm.Yohan's

Re: The word 'Father' to be removed from birth cetificates
Yeah I wonder that also. For gay men the word "mother" should be removed otherwise it's discrimination. Again gay men are more disadvantaged currently with reproductive possibilities so that's another point. The lesbians actually don't care about gays, because they use them as a tool for their own ends.
Men have become disadvantaged with their reproductive options compared to women, that's enough basis to file endless lawsuits for "equal" opportunities in this field until it's rectified.Last edited by Tyrael; 21st-May-2008 at 06:52 AM.

Re: The word 'Father' to be removed from birth cetificates Julie,
I recently went to get my passport re-newed.
Apparently, you have to have a Birth Certificate that states the birthdate and names of BOTH your Mother AND FATHER.
Now, I'm lucky, I have both on MY birth certificate, but I think personally there are going to be a lot of kids down the track, that will NOT be able to travel, because they will never get these details, with the Privacy Act and other PC avoidance methods.
Mainly because Mum was too much of a stuck-up or fraudulent bitch to name who really fathered her child.
Over here you require this info or no passport, it says it on the application form.
Just my $0.02 worth.
