Why Does Man Owe Support For Child Just 7 Years Younger?

Deadbeat dads who owe child support can forget about a tax return. But what if you’re mistakenly identified as one?

One man told News 13 the state wants him to pay for the child of a woman he’s never met, and is likely impossible of fathering.

“I’m 22, just turned,” said Rusty Cole, a National Guardsman. “I was born in ’87. The child [was] born in ’95.”

But according to records, Cole owes child support for a child born when he was just 7 years old.

It appears to be an obvious case of mistaken identity, something that happens quite often, but for Cole, it’s a mistake keeping him from thousands of needed dollars.

“My dad had a stroke a few years back,” Cole said. “He hasn’t been able to go to work. He’s disabled. My mom’s been paying all the bills here.”

For weeks, Cole e-mailed, made phone calls and even went to the state agency in person to protest, but he said he was told a child born in 1995 was due money, and Cole needed to pay.

“They were like, ‘Oh, yes, we have it on here that you are the father,’ and I was like, ‘Ma’am, there’s no way,’” Cole told News 13.

It was an e-mail to Gov. Charlie Crist that finally got things rolling. Cole got a phone call from the Department of Revenue, and after a brief apology, Cole was told his return was being processed.

“This is the phone call I’ve been waiting for,” Cole said.

Until the return is his hands, Cole said he is not letting up. Even though his nightmare appears to be close to over, he admitted he wasn’t so sure about that.

“I want this completely off my record,” Cole said. “I don’t want this ever affecting me later on in life.”

I'm glad he isn't letting up because no man should pay child support to a child who will only see a small percentage of the money! Then again, child support is the only life line that lazy, incompetent whores have to stay afloat!

....and really, he talked to alot of people protesting this apparently and none of them (besides the Gov) seemed to realize the absurdity of a 7 year old being a father!!!

These are the people we trust to collect child alimony???

always remember actually paternity is not necessary to be festooned with a maintenance order nowadays -- a bond ( with her bastard) is enough or merely the allegation of a bond and the system will enthusiatically attach a lien to the deadbeat dad- kind of like instant pariahhood
