    Vodafone ad with positive father

This is one of the more recent ads for Vodafone in the UK, which some of you might have seen.

Unusually, it portrays a white, successful businessman who's just been appointed the company's new director. He's about to give a speech when his mobile rings. It's his daughter, and she's just split with her boyfriend/husband/whatever and she's in her car somewhere. Her dad drops everything and goes to be with her.

Now, what struck me here is the fact that it's unusual to see a man portrayed so positively, and more so to see a father portrayed so positively. Yes, the setup may be cavity-inducing, but that's really beside the point. After no end of adverts, movies and TV shows where 'daddy is stupid' it makes a nice change.

Anyone who wants to view the advert can do so here:

Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

I am sure it impresses the ladies.. Is this what we think being a dad is all about, dropping everything because our bikeshed daughter has been dumped?

What if his son had rung to cry that his bitch had dumped him?

But his son would not have disturbed his dad at work would he?

    Selfish cunt!

Who said there was any reliance on advertising media?

I think you're misrepresenting the point of the post...

well it also assumes that when a woman breaks up with a man its the end of the world, because of course, women are such emotionally incapable beings who need a white knight to save them from the unimaginable horror of loosing... a man!

Personally, I don't care about the whys and wherefores of the situation. The point is that his daughter phoned him up in a state, and being a good father he dropped was he was doing to be with her. Now, she may be a self-centered little PITA, but that's not the point. Here we have a positive depiction of a father, one who will always be there for his children, no matter what.

    It makes a bloody change.

indeed it does. But i think there are many positive depictions of fathers in the media, but the MRM seems obessed with twisting them into something negative, which is a shame..

I don't like women who think they have a right to interupt everything a man is doing using the nagport, I have had too many bad experiences with such!

Women create drama and expect men to drop everything and pander to them, this is how I see it, but we can agree to differ if you think it is a postive representation of a man when he lies about what he is doing to pander to the brats feelings!

I think we have to remember, since women are the main consumers of nagport talktime, the advertisers will forever want to pander to that market and shape it..

The worst ads I ever saw where the series of BT ones with the dodgy step daddy and the SMS (single mother slapper)..

I spotted this one from Vauxhaul the other day, look out at 0:18 where the little girls hides from crazy swimming pool lady behind Daddies reassuring leg, or could she be trying to protect her innocent Dad from a predatory female -

haha! yes, little girls dont like crazy women coming near their daddies! I have a 2 year old daughter who goes mad when her mother tries to get it on with me!

Sadly, because I refused to, cant see my daughter anymore either!
