    Paternity test reveals secrets

    From China Daily:

    Paternity test reveals secrets

Clinics say 30 percent of tested men are not the biological
    father of their children

A leading Beijing paternity testing center says up to 30 percent
of tested men were not the biological fathers of their children.

The Forensic Science Center of Beijing Genomics Institute,
which has 19 offices across China, said there had been a 20
percent annual increase of paternity tests since it was founded
    in 2002.

A clinic worker surnamed Wu said 30 percent of tested men at the clinic had not fathered their child, and that the real proportion could be higher.

"Actually, some couples coming here for the tests are not married in real life. The 'husband' that confirmed a biological father of the child is indeed the woman's lover."

Beijing Chaoyang Hospital's paternity test center also reported a sharp increase in paternity tests.

When it was founded in 2000, the clinic conducted a dozen tests. Last year, more than 600 paternity tests were carried out, said Xiao Bai, who is in charge of the center.

Wu said paternity tests were on the rise as more suspicious Beijing husbands are checking on their wives' fidelity.

He said the center conducted more than 3,000 paternity tests last year, 20 percent higher than last year.

"It always happens after the husband finds out their wives are having an extramarital affair," Wu said.

And it is not just husbands who are insisting on the test.

The number of women opting for prenatal paternity testing has also shot up in recent years. "They want to know whose baby they are carrying," Wu said.

"If the husband discovers he is not the biological father, it is divorce or abortion."

Over the past decade paternity testing technology has advanced and Beijing now has nearly 20 testing centers.

The test costs between 1,000 to 1,200 yuan ($146 - 176) per person, and the results are ready within a week.

"There would be more people coming here if the cost of the tests become lower," said one unnamed worker from a Beijing biotech company.

The worker said typical clients are aged in their 30s, well-educated and with a good job.

"Usually, couples begin to drift apart as a result of different work locations or frequent business, then husbands begin to doubt their wives' fidelity," she said.

Sociology specialist Wang Xing attributed the increase of paternity tests to the loss of the loyalty within marriage.

"With the society more open and diverse, social attitudes and behavior towards sex and family seems to become relaxed and casual. Nowadays, casual sex or one-night stands are no novelty, marriage and family become vulnerable and people lose confidence in a loyal marriage," he said.

"In China, most families have only one child, if it turns out that the child is another man's baby, that may be a disaster for the family.

"Suspicious husbands check on their wives' fidelity through paternity tests also suggests that Chinese husbands require chastity and complete loyalty from their wives.

"But under the open-minded situation, the expectation of total loyalty from a wife might just be too high," Wang said.

Genebase a company that i use for testing my children, and they seem to agree on about 30% are NPE (non parental event),but as for the testing Ydna for genetic heritage,it run's at a higher rate, and it saddens me when you see a chap put up his family tree while waiting for his results to come back, only to find that he is not Jewish,English,German and many more his Father's name is not one from his genetic Father's,those run at around 45%.

Not quite so damned insc-root-able with DNA testing, eh?
I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up.
    I am outnumbered.
    But...
YOU don't just make a difference,
    you make THE difference.

I would be interested to see a comparison of laws surrounding paternity fraud in other countries and the U.S. Here if you signed the birth certificate thinking that the child is yours (a mistake that many men make) it doesn't matter in most states if you find out you are not the real father later you are still required by law and at force of GOING TO JAIL to pay child support.
Is it that way in China? Or Ireland Senach? What about the U.K. and Australia?

Most of these test's cover Western Europe the Nothern America and Canada, and other Mainly English speaking nations,Australia,New Zealand,South Africa, these chap's wanted to tie up their paper Genealogy (family tree BDM) and a Ydna genetic test, only to find that as much as 45% are not whom they thought they were, there are 536 profile's that are a Genetic match within 6 marker drift, and roughly half thought they were from a different race, only to find themselves surrounded by NW Irish Rb1 M222,it must be a shock to them and it must be soul destroying to know that they were the victim of a NPE.

Most Western countries and those above are trying to ban Father's testing their children, without the permission from the Mother.

We have the same problems with the consent thing here. I believe that a man should be able to challenge paternaty at any time, at which point it is up to the mother to prove that he is the father by way of a DNA test. This is only fair and reasonable but fairness and reason do not come into play when you are talking about family law and child support.
But what about the child support laws that, in this country, say that you have to pay child support even after it is established that the child is not yours?

This will be have to be thrown out to those who have faced this problem, even though i have lost children to the family court's,their Mother has not chased me for child support,it was not because she did not want money from me,her solictor advised against it,strange ?

Why was require complete loyalty worded as it is something bad? It's normal. And if I would be a legislator, I would pass a law requiring paternity tests in every divorce proceeding.

RV, that comes from this crazy mentality that women are human beings and should be given all of the slack and men are NOT human beings and therefore their concerns don't matter.
    My take is this:
If you want to have sex with multiple men even if you are married, then go ahead be my guest. But what is this business of making the guy pay for the kid who isn't his. And why should we deny him that knowledge? It should be forthcoming in all legal matters when it comes to paternity.
There is actually a book here in the U.S. written by some feminist that says this "paternity backlash" isn't about justice for men but about men "abandoning their duties as fathers and husbands." Seriously I am not making that up. But these are the people who dominate the public debate about such things.

I don't see how you abandon your responsibilities if you want a paternity test. Maybe the man wants to invest a lot into the child and wants to make sure he took part in conceiving it?

I might annoy my husband with this, but I'm going to get a paternity test even if he doesn't want to. lol. I mean, I'm sure I wouldn't cheat, but I want him to know that I'm not offended by things like this. It's like the prenup. I don't know, I wouldn't be offended if a guy would want that. Or if he would just want to live together and not get married or any alternative. I could care the less, to be honest.
