Mother admits altering paternity test

A Jackson County child custody case recently took a strange turn when two DNA tests identified different fathers.

Each test supposedly was 99.9 percent sure.

Was science flat wrong? And if so, what would that mean for more than 350,000 paternity tests done yearly nationwide by more than 40 labs?

Judge John OÂ’Malley ordered a third DNA test and called a hearing last week to determine the father of a 3-year-old Kansas City boy.

As it turned out, the third test wasnÂ’t done because it wasnÂ’t needed. The mother admitted altering test results in favor of a man she claimed was the father. She made the admission after a lawyer representing her child obtained a copy of the original report, which found zero chance that the man was the father.

OÂ’Malley set a visitation schedule for the real father, whose test was accurate, and had harsh words for the woman.

“You don’t file phony pleadings in the court,” O’Malley told her. “You think this is the Jerry Springer show or something, and it’s not. You’re going to lose your child. That’s the direction this is going.”

He set another hearing, threatened to hold the woman in contempt and ordered her to hire a lawyer.

While such cases are rare, experts said, they do happen.

The womanÂ’s DNA test was done by DNA Diagnostics Center in Fairfield, Ohio.

The company performs more than 3,000 paternity tests a month and hears of about two fraud cases a month, said company communications director Jim Hanigan.

Sample collectors get DNA from the mother, child and possible father. The most common fraud attempted by men is to send another man to take the test.

That generally fails because collectors check identification and take photographs, he said.

“The DNA won’t lie — that’s for sure,” he said.

Paternity fraud most certainly is not a rare occurrence at all. Indeed, it is only now in a technologically enlightened time, that has allowed men to unravel a widespread problem which has existed since time began.

To which manipulative and conniving women have silently nodded in agreement for the greater good or is it gain of the sisterhood - in this rather lucrative age-old scam.

A recent poll in a UK womans magazine (the name escapes me) numbering some many thousands asked women - would you tell your partner he was the father to another mans child? The majority arrogantly answered no and gave an assortment of pathetic excusatory disclaimers as to why.

Some studies have concluded 2-3%, others up to 33% - maybe somewhere inbetween. Again it is most certainly not rare, because it usually has a very powerful ulterior motive indeed = $$$.

This gluttonous greed for money seems to supersede the rights and feelings of the man - who rears a child which has no genetic lineage to him. Deceiving a man is one thing. But what kind of mother would foist such a despicable falsehood on a child, whose actions - if discovered -could resonate negatively for a lifetime. For this $$$ - pathetic.

My word the percentage is even worse than I could recollect. Given such a shocking percentage, I would propose a mandatory dna test for all new born babies.

The cost to be partly subsidized by the state and the remaining cost to be shared by the mother and "alleged" father.

This would be far cheaper in the long run even if the prospective father is burdened with the whole cost. Both financially and emotionally.
