"From my understanding, Wisconsin enacted a law formally called the "Wisconsin Grandparent Liability Law". This law and its implications are often called "Grandparent Liability". Basically, this law states that after the identity of a minor's child (in this case, your son) is determined by the court, the minor's child (your grandchild) is entitled to equal financial resources from both parents. Since your son is considered a minor and, in the eyes of this law, you are obligated to care for his needs as a minor. "

This means that you could be paying child support to your ex of your 14 y-o son. He could get his 13 y-o gf pregnant. You would have to pay cs for your son AND you would have to pay cs to his minor gf for your grandchild. Your son might think this is pretty cool. He can have babies and YOU will pay for them. Perhaps he and his gf have several more kids, at YOUR expense???

Worse, an underage male can be raped and if she gets pregnant, the grandparents must pay child alimony.

Once the grandparents start paying Child Support...it most likely won't stop. Even if it turns out that the child was not their blood, or if their social security checks have to be diverted to the CS.

It should be obvious that a system hell bent on extorting money from everyone it can "in the name of the children" cannot be reformed and will continue to get worse.

I don't believe anyone but legal parents should ever have to pay child support. I am not against child support but am definitely for reform of the system.

One thing that bothers me? My stepson may want to come live with us one day. If my husband and I should split after that were to happen I would have to pay him child support.

So I am faced with telling his child that he cannot come live with us because I don't want the financial responsibility (which I would never do) or be forced to support him until he is 19 or through college.

That is BS! For any stepparent, male or female.

Reform? LOL, how can you reform a system that is designed around using children to extort money? The system is acting exactly as designed and there is no possibility of reform.
