'Families at risk' as chemists sell paternity test kits

    From This is London:

'Families at risk' as chemists sell paternity test kits

DNA experts and religious groups have warned over the use of a
paternity testing kit that is being sold over the counter for the
    first time in Britain.

Pharmacist Prashant Patel started selling the £30 DNA test kits
at the Clockwork Pharmacy in Hackney and now also stocks
them at his chain's other nine stores across London and the
    South-East.

The product contains a swab to collect cheek tissue from the
father, child, and optionally the mother. Customers then pay
£119 to send the samples to a laboratory in New Mexico, US. International Biosciences claims its test is 99.9 per cent accurate, although there is no regulatory body to verify this.

Testing DNA without consent is illegal under the Human Tissue Act (2004) and companies that sell the kits do not have to be licensed or registered with a regulator.

Pat Wilson, spokesman of advisory body the Human Genetics Commission, said: "We have serious concerns about 'over the counter' genetic tests of this kind. DNA 'theft' is a criminal offence and companies testing samples they have received through the post may not be able to establish if they have been freely given."

Dr Shaun Griffin, spokesman for watchdog the Human Tissue Authority, said people should contact the police if they suspect a paternity test has been carried out without consent.

Rev Joyce Daley, borough dean of Black Majority Churches in Hackney, said she had "grave concerns" about the sale of the kits. "It creates a seed of doubt for parents. We have enough divided families as it is," she added. "People may buy it without understanding all the ramifications."

Josephine Quintavalle, of campaign group Comment on Reproductive Ethics, said a child might be unable to give their consent. "Both adults may be using the child as a vehicle to score points," she said. "In other countries over-the-counter genetic tests are illegal because they consider stability and family structure as worth more than fights over paternity."

The paternity testing service has been available on the internet for about two years.

Mr Patel said: "We treat this with the same level of seriousness as selling medicine. When people come in we explain what the kit is about and explain that it has to be signed by the legal guardian of the child before testing. There is more control here than there is on the internet. All our pharmacists are trained in how to use the kit.

"Nobody would use it if there were not already arguments within the family. This is very useful for peace of mind."

A spokesman for International Biosciences said: "[The company] takes the responsibility of paternity testing very seriously and has taken advice from all recognised religious groups and organisations involved in family and child welfare."

The results of the tests are not accepted by British courts.

This is the best thing that can happen to families actually. Nothing is better than the paternity of the child being confirmed so that both parents can get over it. If my husband would want to test the paternity of our children, I could care the less.

It seems like she's happy for men to continue oblivious to possible paternity fraud, just as long as there is a 'semblance' of a family.

Josephine Quintavalle, of campaign group Comment on Reproductive Ethics, said a child might be unable to give their consent. "Both adults may be using the child as a vehicle to score points," she said.
How is a man with reasonable suspicion, who seeks to determine the paternity of a child "scoring points" exactly? Doesn't oneupmanship remain the sole preserve of the mother?

"In other countries over-the-counter genetic tests are illegal because they consider stability and family structure as worth more than fights over paternity."
    B
y it's very definition - you can't have 'family structure' if the content of it is a lie!

It sounds like a haven for unscrupulous women to have themselves seeded by whatever man they choose, and then decide who'll be the best sucker/s to raise the brood in financial terms.

No wonder many women fervently oppose paternity kits, it's the beginning of the end for one massive universal scam women have been playing for thousands of years!

Paternity kits alongside the male pill will finally bring about some equilibrium in men's reproductive rights.

The best way to do it would be at the request at the father at birth. At least this is how I would do it. Actually this would improve the family because it would be a disincentive to cheat! The only people hurt by this are cheaters.

fraud is also a criminal offence but the femiit Family Court star chamber often fits cuckolded fathers with the impost of raising another man's bastard child ( oops is that politically corect to say that )

obviously the feminit court system needs a patsy to pay the childrearing costs of the bastard child and why not butthead - he married
Ms Trickhimup- with -a- Vengeance didn't he !!!

in Australia such DNA test are not admissible in the Family Court unless she agrees

I will reinerate the case of an enterprising wimyn here who too begat a bastard child !

her butthead paid $ A 80 000 child maintenance then had his "son" DNA tested and it proved he could not be the father

he sued Ms for recoupment of the amount and won !!

but wait !!! there is more

she was ordered to pay him back at $ A 2/week

when asked why she alleged that butthead was the father she replied

    " he might have been"

and slamed the door in the journalists face

moral of the story - cock-a-doodle doo and sucker will do in paternity fraud

These tests should be mandatory whenever a child is born.

They are not. However, every man has a right to, and should, insist on one whenever a child is born and he is named as the father.

Well, well, well. So DNA theft is a criminal offence, is it? So does that mean women who steal men's sperm are criminals? And who ever asks whether the sperm has been "freely given"?

And what about paternity fraud, which is the theft of a man's name, labour, money, goodwill and genetic future for all time?

I'm all for the paternity test kits!

Since fraud is glorified by new age harpies and welfare collecting cockroaches, the test kit would shoot them down!

    And you know something else?
I think the real reason why over the counter tests are illegal in some countries, is because it makes a potential welfare whore think twice before she baits a peonage slave!!

Re: 'Families at risk' as chemists sell paternity test kits

Moved thread to Double Standards, because the author of this article tries to defend paternity fraud and discourage parents from knowing the facts.

Pat Wilson, spokesman of advisory body the Human Genetics Commission, said: "We have serious concerns about 'over the counter' genetic tests of this kind. DNA 'theft' is a criminal offence
Guess what, Paternity fraud is a much worse (criminal) offence since it deliberately misleads pseudo-fathers into thinking a child is theirs when it's not. Fathers who are victims to paternity fraud are living a lie.

Rev Joyce Daley, borough dean of Black Majority Churches in Hackney, said she had "grave concerns" about the sale of the kits. "It creates a seed of doubt for parents. We have enough divided families as it is," she added. "People may buy it without understanding all the ramifications."
Actually, DNA Kits, create confidence, absolute certainty with factual evidence about paternity. People will, buy it if they want to know the truth. Course parents should think carefully about it.

We have enough divided families as it is," she added.
Yeah well there's no problem if the wife has no dirty little secrets of committing paternity fraud.

This is just the kind of thing that strikes terror in the hearts of feminists and a great many women all over.

The assurance that a man is caring for a child that is his is central to his security and is what has made civilization possible. I'm not exaggerating! Think about it; from the paperclip on your desk to the air handling system in the building you work at or live to the car you drive, just about all of these things came to be because men collectively were providing for children that they were somehow assured were theirs. This is what marriage was for originally. Not to "subjugate" a woman but rather to offer a mutually beneficial deal. One in which the woman had a provider and protector and the man had some chance of having thriving offspring that could carry on his legacy. The role of provider and protector was not a privileged one despite what feminists will have you think. It was one of great risk and responsibility. Think about the early cave dwellers when you had a woman who lived in the metaphorical “Cave” and a man who went out and risked his life to bring back food trying his best not to get eaten by saber tooth tigers and on the occasion that he might not have a productive hunt may not be able to have access to reproduction. The woman could choose a protector and provider but had to give some assurance that she was going to be faithful. So, we developed social taboos for infidelity for BOTH men and women and this was called Marriage. For real! That’s what it was and still is-for the man. Now with absolutely no respect for the idea of marriage a woman can reproduce with whomever she wants and still expect the better provider to do his job as long as she is successful in deceiving him.
In today’s social environment paternity testing is the only way that men can be assured that they children they are raising are his. This is good for EVERYBODY except women who seek to avoid accountability. Unfortunately accountability is something that far too many women today want to avoid at all costs. They call it oppression.

rohara, in the cave times, marriage didn't really exist. The best hunters and whatever were acquiring the majority of women because they afforded maintaining them.

And if being provided for and whatever is the best deal ever, why not vote for socialized everything?
