Support takes away the ability of one parent to properly look after the child themself and is usually done by spiteful people who want to make the other parent suffer so they themselves can sit on their ass a little more.

Well, we have been paying it twice a month for twelve years. She better damn well return the favor.

Also, there will never be "shared" parenting in our case because we live 300km away from her.

If that is the case the payor can apply to the courts for "hardship". Other support orders will be taken into consideration and the support will be reduced.

Also, child support is only about 10% of your income. So even if you have two child support orders for two kids with two different moms you would still have 80% of your income to live on.

Now, if you have a crapload of kids out there, that would be a problem. But, again, you could apply to the courts for hardship.

There are men paying 30-40%, some even more. Add in total taxes of 30-55% for some and there is not much left.

And some of those men have remarried...and have kids...so THOSE kids suffer.

I've met or spoken with a number of men who were on the hook for over 100% of what they take in, the gross. And some of those were additionally paying for lawyers on top of that.

10% + all extra caricular activities or anything else the mom decides-some of which add up to a hell of a lot more than 10%

One parent or the other or both should move if possible. For the good of the child. Failing that the parent with the greatly lesser time should get more school break, holiday and lots of time during Summer (maybe 1/2) to help keep the bonds strong and to cut stress for everyone.

It is his kid but our home and our finances.

We will pay half for a bus ticket so that he can visit his mother whenever he wants. This is hypothetical, of course. The chance he will ever want to come and live with us is very small. Not with the control issues she has.
