Dads ignored in favour of dogs at Christmas

When it comes to Christmas presents, the family pooch will have more spent on it than dads according to research carried out by Direct Line.

The report estimated that 40 million would be spent on presents for household canines this yuletide, with dog chews and dog chocolates at the top of the gift list.

This equates to roughly 13.63 spent on each Rex or Rover in the 56% of dog-owning households who admitted they would buy their dog a gift.

While grandparents, aunts and uncles fared slightly better with an additional 2 being spent on them, 60% of the dog-owners said they were not planning to buy their dads anything and only 57% were planning on buying their mum a gift.

I thought of this story when I went to buy a Christmas present for my dad last year.
We don't have a dog, but still, the thought of this story made me determined to get him a present he'd really like rather than the usual socks or tie.
So I got him a few albums - Elvis Costello, The Beatles and Cream (the band, not the dairy product although that might be better than a tie) - he was very happy with those presents!

Well, supporting data shows that great sums of money are spent on Mothers' day, while conversely, the most 'reverse - charge' calls are made on... Fathers' day. I suppose you'll want a citation for it? If so, lemme know and I'll go hunt it out for you.
So, with the above fact at hand, I don't doubt the credibility of this article either.

I wonder if the average amount of money spent on dogs is pushed upward by the weirdos who like to really splurge on stuff for their pets? They might shop someplace like Nixie's Pet Boutique where they sell clothes, strollers, soap on a rope, herbal shampoo and conditioner and other luxuries for dogs. LOL.
