Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
From BBC News:
Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
Black fathers need to become more involved with their children to help tackle social problems among young people, a government minister will say.
Prominent black MP David Lammy will tell the Runnymede race think tank that fathers must take more responsibility.
In a speech on Monday, he will say this would address issues such as education underachievement and high crime rates.
The higher education minister will also praise women in families where fathers are either absent or uninvolved.
In the event to link in with Mothering Sunday, he will say: "What many women want for Mothers' Day can't be given by their children - it is more engaged fathers."
'Emotional bond'
Mr Lammy will touch on figures that suggest 59% of black Caribbean and 44% of black African children grow up in single-parent families.
"The mark of a man is not how many children he spawns but how he matches up as a father," he will say.
Mr Lammy will also call for fathers from all backgrounds to remain in touch with their children whatever the relationship with their mothers.
He will say: "Between a quarter and a third of children with separated parents have little or no contact with their fathers.
"It is not just the structure of families that matters. It is whether fathers continue to contribute to their children's lives."
He will argue that "modern fatherhood needs updating from the traditional model", saying that young people need "an emotional bond with their father".
The speech at the House of Commons will be accompanied by recorded video interviews with leading black figures such as broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald and chart-topping rapper Tinie Tempah.
Sir Trevor said his father had a major influence on his life.
He told Mr Lammy: "My father always said 'Reach for the stars and you may get to the top of the trees, but you have to aim high'."Subscribe to my accounts on DocStoc, Scribd, Twitter and YouTube.

Not to put too finer point on it, but if successive governments had done their job right there would only be three black dads in the UK.

Re: Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
I'm friends with quite a few black fathers who love and keep their children on the straight and narrow. Oh and believe me when I tell you, they are nowhere near as wild as the desperate dicks and racist fucktards on TV make them out to be. It's nothing more than stereotypes constantly at work to keep the weak and the stupid living in the trenches!

Re: Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
Praise single mothers? This is the most idiot thing I have ever heard. Single mothers often CHOOSE to be single so they spite fathers and life of their money as parasites (child support, alimoney and so on).
Abscent fathers are often abscent because the mother and the goverment make sure he can't acces his children and only function as a cashcow. It's adding insult to injury to first seperate fathers from their children and then kick them in their balls again for being abscent while praising those single mothers of whom I wager MANY are vindictive women.

Sorry but i have to laugh because if not i will start breaking things and that gets expensive.
These two lines are so contradictory its unbelievable, the first line states that fathers need to be more involved to help combat educational underachievement and high crime rates, yet according to the second line, single mothers are doing a great job without the fathers ....... sorry “matey” but you can't have your cake and eat it ..... (or maybe you can

Re: Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
In echoing similar to what NG and Nivek said, it's just pure stereotyping (not to mention political expedience just before an upcoming general election) in stating mothers must be praised wholesale (allaying any blame on their part also) yet fathers must take full responsibility in relationships where they usually have little say or influence.

Re: Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
Black fathers should be more involved:
- When the mother wants a break
- When the time to pay the child alimony arrives
Otherwise, they can go starve somewhere! That's the reality of shit like this."If Blizzard expects you to be always online to play their game. Then Blizzard need to always be online whenever you want to play it."- Unknown internet poster

Re: Black fathers urged to be more involved with children
Technically I'm an "Absent Father", although white. It bothers me that all this where is the father talk ignores the mother. I spent a fortune trying to stay in touch with my child, was in court many times for many years. Nearly a decade and about $600K was spent. Nobody will help, more or less, if the mother decides to block access. In the end that is all that matters, it is her choice. She will not be held accountable or responsible. T
Particularly upsetting is that once visitation ends and brainwashing (a form of child abuse) continues, folks say oh it is the child's choice now. That's so false. They are ignoring what the child experienced and how they were forced, encouraged, and trained that Dad is gone, hates you, is evil, etc. If a child is punished if they have a good time with Dad…or is told Dad forgot your birthday while return-to-sendering gifts, and other alienation stuff then the child is not actually making a choice. They are simply exhibiting the symptoms of their mistreatment by Mom.
To get Dad back it's important not to spend years blocking, devaluing, and destroying the Father-Child relationship.
In some cases social programs are a large contributor to the no-dad situation. Many housing and other programs are only available to Mom and the kids together. If Dad is there they get cut off. And of course there is child support which goes up as Dad's time with the kids is reduced. In effect this pays Moms to cut out the Fathers.Last edited by Stan; 15th-March-2010 at 01:20 AM.

I am waiting for these Black fathers to say, ' Who the fu*k are you discriminating out as 'absent'? What have you got to say to the White fathers you have driven out'?
