WSU student says sexual assault report was fake

A 19-year-old woman recanted her claim that she was forced
into a parking lot near Winona State University and sexually
assaulted, police said.

The woman, a WSU student, had told police a man snuck up
behind her early Saturday morning, put a bag over her head
and carried her to a parking lot where he took off her pants
and assaulted her. Her claim prompted the school to e-mail a
campus-wide safety alert.

Police conducted a follow-up interview with the woman Monday
and pointed out inconsistencies in her report, Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said. The woman eventually admitted the report was fake, he said.

The woman had said she was walking from Morey Hall to Sheehan Hall — two WSU dormitories — and had just finished a cell phone call when a man approached her from behind near King and Huff streets. WSU officials rescinded that safety alert Tuesday after an investigation by police and campus security.

Police have not decided if they’ll charge the woman for filing a false police report, Williams said. Officers must weigh the public fear generated by a false report of a sex assault and the potential chilling effect of charging her, he said, since charges may make future victims of actual assaults reluctant to come forward.

“We don’t want to give the impression that we are not sensitive to the needs of the people that make reports as serious of this,” Williams said.

Police said they don’t know what motivated the woman to make a false police report.

Are burglary victims reluctant to come forward just because insurance companies chase down frauds?

Do motorists who have has someone crash into them fail to report it just because the cops charge Lebanese whip-lash scammers?

Exactly, in my reasoning, false charges hurt both innocent men AND genuine victims and their interrests weigh much more than these subjective 'fears' of false accusers being caught. That someone is legally allowed to lie about someone having commited a crime - in the process reducing the crime itself to a mockery - and their interrests called 'fears' being protected is inhuman.

The only thing they succeed in is making women, no matter their morals, repulsive as can be. It is dangerous to have sex with a woman, it is dangerous to make a wrong joke/comment to a woman, it is dangerous to defend yourself from a woman, it is dangerous even to disagree with a woman (your wive could call 911...) and in states such as Arizona it will be even dangerous to have any social contact with a woman at all (with the extension of the DV laws to apply to 'dating relationships').

Bottom line, these laws drive the genders appart, men cannot trust women because men will get punished just because the woman wants it to be that way. Women will start complaining and whining that we are being assholes for being 'afraid of strong, independant and liberated women' while still dennying the obvious facts and perhaps one day they will realize it is 'their rights' that are the problem.

It sickens me to death how it is becoming more and more impossible to have any genuine relation with a woman at all thanks to our laws...
