Woman who falsely cried rape EIGHT times is spared jail

A woman who has cried rape eight times has been spared jail.
Gemma Gregory repeatedly claimed that she had been raped or sexually assaulted by around seven men over a six-year period.
She made the allegations against ex-boyfriends who ended up being quizzed by detectives about what she had alleged against them.
The 28-year-old was given a one-year jail term suspended for two years by a judge who said she must receive mental health treatment.
Plymouth Crown Court heard that Gregory suffers from a personality disorder and other disorders for which she needs treatment which the court heard would cost taxpayers up to £280,000.
Gregory, from Amity Place, Plymouth, Devon, made a total of eight false reports of sexual assault including three rapes.
Police also recorded several hundred calls either from her or about her, the court was told. She admitted perverting the course of justice after her latest cry rape allegation.
Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, said: "Making false allegations of rape not only causes a great deal of wasted police time but also it is liable to, and in this case clearly did, cause serious anguish to the person against who the complaint is made.
"It is a very serious matter and it raises a very serious cloud against anyone who would make such an allegation." In May 2006 Gregory rang police to say she had been raped at her home.
She stuck to her story in a video interview three days later.
Prosecutor Piers Norsworthy said she had made eight allegations of sexual assault against seven different men between February 1998 and June 2004. All were discontinued by the police.
He said: "Often these were allegations made against former boyfriends and typical scenarios were that she had met up with them, spent time drinking and then there was a sexual assault."
In June 2002 she made a police statement admitting that she had previously cried rape and was "seeking attention" from the police.
In May last year when she made her latest false claim she was warned she would be prosecuted of it was another lie.
At the end of that month, the man was arrested and interviewed.
For the next five months Gregory regularly contacted police about the case to see how it was progressing. She finally admitted making it up in September when she appeared before a judge.
Detective Constable Paul Weymouth of Plymouth CID who investigated the matter said: "We conducted a thorough rape inquiry.
"Because of previous allegations she had made, it was strenuously explained to her about the implications of making a false claim. "She was medically examined and video interviewed. Forensic evidence was taken from her.
"The boyfriend was a voluntary attendee and he had a phone text message which she sent after she made the rape allegation asking if he was "coming round tonight".
"She denied making it up until she got to court.
"She rang us every two or three days to keep it going and claimed that her ex boyfriend had made silent calls. She wanted him put in prison. She kept this going for along time. Since she was arrested there have been no more calls to us.
"This was the eighth time she had claimed rape or a serious sexual assault by different people."
The judge warned her that if she did not comply with the terms of his order over the next two years, she will be brought back to court and have the suspended jail term activated.

Can't say I'm at all surprised by this verdict.

    Some of the comments:
And this I'm afraid is why there are so few convictions for rape as it is so difficult to prove. If this judge had jailed this woman for the same term length as one of the accused would have been if he had been convicted, it would send out the message that false rape claims are as serious as real rape claims. That way it would be a lot safer to convict someone on the grounds of rape.
    - Mike P, Ottery St. Mary, UK

This sort of situation is the reason why so many juries are extremely cautious about convicting men for rape. An easy charge to make and a hard one to defend.
    - Ian Millard, Exeter UK

8 men's lives have been ruined by these false claims. Their names spread across the press and local media. It is time for all parties to not be named in rape case until the trial is over.
It does help women who have been raped as people will have this case at the back of their mind wondering is a true statement or another false claim.
    - Keith, Merseyside

If you are convicted of rape you get 10 years. If the woman cries rape when it was actually consensual she should get 10 years.
    - Lee, Liverpool
It doesn't matter what she is suffering from, she should have been sent inside. Those poor men who she made allegations about had suffered serious allegations, which could have resulted in a prison sentence. A wicked woman who deserves no sympathy, however ill she is.
    - Stan Still, UK

Should be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. This woman is obviously a danger to all men.
    - Steve H, Venice, Italy

Yes, she certainly has a personality disorder - it's called being a liar. Put her in jail and let her think of what she did to all those men.
    - Linda, New York City

And Cameron goes on about getting more convictions for rape?

Maybe when they make false rape allegations a punishable crime and not an excuse for more handouts then we'll be able to spend more time on real rape cases.

This wasn't a spur of the moment thing with her, it was deliberate and sustained. Why can't women take responsibility for their actions, or be held responsible by society? Responsibility is like Kryptonite to them.
    - Dino Fancellu, Epsom, Surrey

This is why Cameron's call for more convictions for rapists is wrong and the appeal to feminist voters will fail. The majority of women have husbands, fathers and brothers and can see the dangers of convictions by quota. False cries of rape should be punished as hard as rapists as both ruin another's life.
    - Addie, itchin

Wasn't it only yesterday that David Cameron was calling for the law to be tightened to increase the number of rape convictions?

With people like this twisted woman around, surely its going to make it a darn sight harder to convict!

The judge should have sent her to prison for a considerable amount of time, firstly to give out a strong message that this is not tolerated in this society and also to compensate (albeit small) to the poor men who will have had their characters blackened by this self absorbed, attention seeking individual!
    - Abi, Shropshire

Ok, so the woman is obviously unwell I can accept that and even feel sorry for her, But and it is a very big but, why did it take so long for someone to spot how many times she had cried rape and to do something about it? And what about the string of men that she falsely accused, there are people who will believe that there is no smoke without fire.
    - Fef, Cheltenham Glos

Why did it take the police 8 times before they realised something was seriously wrong with this woman?
    - Diana, Edinburgh, UK

'Call me Dave' Cameron should take note. His comments yesterday that rapists are getting away with it were not helpful in the light of this story.
    - Badger, Poole, Dorset, England

These despicable women who make these evil accusations should be shown no leniency. A suspended sentence is no punishment for the horrendous suffering she has inflicted upon the poor blokes who almost became her victims.
    - Howard Glynn, Poprad, Slovakia
With any sort of rape claim the mud sticks, no matter how innocent the person the charges is made against. It’s long overdue that both parties in a rape case should remain anonymous until the case is proven. For far too many women now it’s an easy revenge or spite attack on an ex.

Crying afterwards that you wanted attention is no defence – she should be in prison and seeing what she so nearly sent many men to suffer.
    - Jj, Bristol

Did the judge not realise the trauma to the men accused of these crimes, and their families? What about the bad signals this sends out to women who falsely accuse men of rape?
    - Dave, Farnborough

If what she claims were true, then the poor men she accused would go to prison.

Fair is fair, she has ruined their lives with false accusations just as much as other lives are ruined.

She did not learn her lesson after seven times.
    - Krnzi, New York

Just think that if 'SPECIALIST JURIES' were a reality then today there would be eight more convictions for rape or sexual assault.

    Cameron, you're an IDIOT.
    - James, West of England

That's eight LIFE sentences she potentially could have sent these men to jail for. This is exactly the reason so many consider our justice system abolutely farcical and is only in place to protect the guilty.

She should be serving 10 years herself for what she has put these men through.
    - Karl, Lancs, UK

False accusations are as bad as rape as the man is named a shame whether he committed rape or not both parties name should be withheld until after the trail. But if it is proven that the woman has made false accusations then she should named and shamed and jail perhaps this will stop the false accusations and bring the true rapist to justice.
    - Richard, Berkhamsted

So yesterday it was "send innocent men to prison".

Today it is "don't send guilty women to prison."

    That's feminist equality for you.
    - Chris, Wokingham, England

At least you named and have shown a photo of this woman.
    - Mary Doyle, Melbourne, Australia The woman should have been jail for making all those false allegations and wasting taxpayer's money by having police investigating crimes that was never committed. For the judge not to sentence her, he is only encouraging her to continue with her lies. Maybe he needs to go back to law school or remove from the bench for being incompetent.
    - Cam, Houston

While I feel a certain amount of sympathy for this woman, I do wonder how ill she really is if she suddenly 'remembered' that the whole thing was a lie. Far too lenient, she should have got the same sentence the man would have got if he'd been found guilty. Through her lies she has ruined the lives of eight innocent men and is almost being allowed to walk away.
    - Ruth, Poole

Typical. Women seem to get away with everything, no matter what they do. All they have to do is lie just like they do during a divorce and everyone believes THEM. Men always have to pay for women's devious acts. Why doesn't the govrnment and law realise this and grow up?!
    - Richard, Hants

Bang her up in jail she's a real menace to society.
    - James Mills, Nottingham

Makes you sit up and think just how many innocent men are currently behind bars because of false accusations made up by women such as this.
    - Mattie, Barry, Wales

She is a liar and an attention seeker, not worth £280,000 of treatment - would it even work? Put her under lock and key, maybe that would focus her mind on reality.
    - Jill, Valencia, Spain

The former law minister in Norway, Hanne Harlem, the sister of former Primer Gro Harlem Brundtland, said this about cries rape women: "Women should be in the right to falsely report rape to the police, without liability"! Any better? The Swedish politician Gudryn Schyman, says "all men are animals!"

Did anybody claim that all women have emotions?
    - Eddy Jacobsen, L´don

Never mind going to prison, this idiot should be sectioned under the mental health act and treated in a secure institution so that she cannot ruin anyone else's life!
    - Simon Bailey, Long Eaton, UK

And what will happen when she goes to the police for the ninth time?
    - Fred, Aberdeenshire
As you can see, a lot of people are very pissed off about this...

This is what happens in a Matriarchy. Women are innocent (above/immune from the law), men are assumed to be guilty (no proof required for arrest/public humiliation).

Cases such as this one and other similar ones (such as Duke lacrosse) are great for our cause - they do more than we ever could on our own. This way people actually see it (and as you can see from the comments, they don't like what they see), while they would just dismiss anyone trying to raise this issue by himself as misogynist, supporter of rape, etc.

Of course, for the sake of those men, it would be better if these cases never happened, but once they already do, they work in our favor.

Also, it is a rather interesting "coincidence" that this story arose just a couple of days after Cameron's calls to increase the rape convictions. Who's pulling the strings?

Females like that harm innocent men, and also they damage the cause of women who REALLY WERE raped.

Incidentally, that female looks a lot to me like actress Maggie Gyllenhaal!

Re: Woman who falsely cried rape EIGHT times is spared jail

A few centuries ago women who nagged their husbands were placed in ducking stools and dipped over their heads into the water of ponds and rivers. Just imagine what the penalty would have been back then for evil women found guilty of false rape / sexual assault accusations.

Nowadays these skanks seem to get away with practically anything, even murder, especially if the victim is male!

I don't think I've ever heard of a case where a woman found guilty of making a malicious and intentional false accusation of rape made against a man has been imprisoned, or even given an adequate punishment in law. Worse still, many are not even named. I'm very surprised that this bitch was named. Why was that anyway - have I missed something or have they changed he law in England? Her obvious mental derangement should definitely not be bar to a long spell "inside".

But the true victims here are male are they not? That accounts for it. The law of the UK doesn't like men very much does it?

Re: Woman who falsely cried rape EIGHT times is spared jail

I have a brilliant idea. Why don't we get Gemma Gregory an introduction to Dave Cameron, the meeting to take place in a private place with no witnesses? Then we can see how Dave enjoys being victim number nine. Might open up his eyes a bit.

Seriously, if the police, courts and politicians continue stubbornly to treat false rape allegations on the same level as a naughty little prank, they would do well to recognise that they are in effect inviting us all to regard actual rape in just the same way. After all, is there not a logic in this approach? Consider. If a false accusation of rape is just a minor annoyance, it follows that the punishment a man would have received if he had been convicted by the false accuser, must also be treated as a minor annoyance. The punishment fits the crime, yes? And punishments that amount to minor annoyances are properly reserved for trivial little misdemeanours, are they not? So if a man's punishment is of no real consequence, then the crime that merits that punishment cannot be of any real consequence either...

Plymouth Crown Court heard that Gregory suffers from a personality disorder and other disorders for which she needs treatment which the court heard would cost taxpayers up to £280,000.
The cure for such a personality disorder costs just 50p. This woman is a waste of space and air. Good grief, that 50p could even have great future savings on the greenhouse gasses that she breathes out let alone all the travel costs of the police driving hither and thither chasing down innocent men. While we are at it, another few 50p investments could improve the Judiciary too.

    Good Lord,
EIGHT times?, are the cops in the UK really that bloody dense?
This bitch should be locked up until the day she dies, it sounds like she's only going to do it again anyway, after all, a leopard can't change it's spots.

Interesting that "suffering from a personality disorder" is some kind of mitigating circumstance here. I can just see an eight-times rapist being let off with a smack on the wrist and a pound out of the till because of a "personality disorder".
