A case from 2003:

An 18-year-old woman from Cornwall who falsely told police she had been raped has been sent to a young offenders' institution for six months.

Tamsyn Pope, from Strawberry Crescent, Redruth, admitted intending to pervert the course of justice.

A 20-year-old man was arrested over the claims. It was six weeks until DNA evidence and CCTV camera pictures led to him being told he would not be prosecuted.

Judge Jeremy Griggs told Truro Crown Court that Pope's dramatic account of being raped was "clearly a pack of lies".

Drink and drugs mix

The court heard Pope instigated kissing with the man, who she had never met before, at the Twilight Zone nightclub in the town during a night out last September.

At the nightclub, the man noticed she was heavily intoxicated and complaining of stomach pains and an ambulance was called.

Pope refused to be treated by paramedics and was crying uncontrollably. The man then went home.

Pope told a member of staff at the nightclub she had been raped, identifying the man.

Defence counsel Barrie van der Berg said a mixture of drink and drugs had made Pope ill and she had not alleged rape until it was suggested to her.

I thought in most countries one was a legal adult at the age of 18? Why does the media say teenager? When you see teen you tend to think of someone under 18.

Why was he even arrested in the first place? Couldn't the 'blue gun thugs' tell it was a pack of lies or Crown even? It is shameful this even went to court...

Drugs are a crime in this country.

18 year olds drinking in a club is a crime in this country.

Yet the MAN was arrested. She gets the pussy pass.

I agree, strange way to report, and strange way to investigate...

A rape never took place and it takes weeks to investigate and to release a totally innocent man?

I am a strong supporter to make 'false rape allegations' a very serious crime with long jail-terms.
This nonsense must be stopped.

It is unclear from the article just why she was in Court. If it was because the DPS prosecuted her for false claims (unlikely, but should be that as a Crime) oe perverting the course of Justice or wasting Police Time (the easy route) then good.
