Something is rotten here
From Stuff:

By JACQUELIN MAGNAY - SMH Last updated 22:42 07/05/2009
One of rugby league's famous faces and a much loved personality, Matthew Johns, is horrified that old claims of sexual misconduct in New Zealand made when he was playing for the Cronulla Sharks have been publicly revisited by the woman involved.
"I am very sorry for all the trauma and embarrassment this has caused for everyone, but particularly for my family," said Johns about the public outing of his involvement.
Channel Nine, which employs Johns as a rugby league expert, last night went public with his response to the yet-to-be aired allegations about footballers and group sex scheduled for Monday night's Four Corners on ABC1.
Johns says he had consensual sex with the woman seven years ago and he was upset, particularly for his children, that the woman was making the claims again.
At the time it was known that three Sharks players were allegedly involved in the incident after a preseason game in Christchurch. None of the players was named publicly.
But privately Johns had spoken to his wife Trish about the incident. Last night Johns fronted his usual Thursday night television program, The Footy Show, and spoke emotionally about the drama. "It put my family through enormous anguish and embarrassment and once again for that I can't say I'm sorry enough … there has been a lot of pain and embarrassment to a lot of people."
The woman, whose identity was blacked out and her voice altered on the Four Corners program, says she has suffered psychologically as a result of the alleged assault, which she described as degrading.
"There were lots of guys watching and two or three doing stuff to me," she says on the program. "I only remember one player definitely, it was Matthew Johns. He laughed and he joked and was very loud and boisterous."
At the time the New Zealand police investigated the incident but no charges were laid. The alleged assault occurred on February 15, 2002.
Johns is the frontman for the NRL's membership drive.
The Four Corners program explores the issue of footballers behaving badly following the sexual assault charge against another NRL frontman, the Manly star Brett Stewart.
The program contacted Johns for his response on Monday morning, the night after he had been celebrating the Logie triumph of The Footy Show.
OK, here we go.
A few years after a "said" incident happened, a woman claims it was "non-consensual" sex.
She goes up to a room full of rugby league players, now, she wasn't there to have a nice cup of tea and a chat, she knew that before she went there.
The police in New Zealand here at the time found no wrong-doing on the part of Mr Johns and those involved, occured
So, why is this being raked up again?
Could it be because the original complainant has recently divorced from her partner and under her pre-marital agreement she would leave with what she bought to the marriage?
Hmm, you work it out.

Re: Something is rotten here
Yes it was a while back and yes the police did nothing.
And yes, the woman (girl) was stupid and immoral going back to a hotel room with a stranger on the basis of him being a sports 'hero'.
She has no dignity and is suffering the consequences of her own foolishness.
But he has admitted it.
And she didn't go back to his hotel to have sex with three men. Just the one.
There were six other shit-faced arsehole excuses for men who took advantage of the situation and along with him acted like farm-boys with no Integrity. They were Dishonourable. A friggin' Disgrace.
I have no sympathy for him as a man.
He is an overpaid, loud-mouthed wanker who can barely do his friggin' shoe laces up and gets paid a small fortune for making innane comments on a TV show along with several other half-witted excuses for men.
Boors, the lot of them.
His behaviour plays right into Feminist hands.
He is the living proof and example that feminists love to make us all look like.
He says he is sorry. For what? Getting caught up with?
I would horse-whip the bounder.
As far as I can tell, from the acres of print and hours of TV coverage, no 'crime' was committed. But he is guilty of an offence against every man here as well as that woman.
I expect only a few here will agree with me, but my shoulders are broader than his.

Where's the part where somebody simply stands up and proclaims
"Madam, You are known to be a LIAR! Prepare to answer to "civil" court proceedings!"
Just sayin'......

The Affair will not stand in court based on the time limits. Her claim is just too old.
However, she might be able to claim a delayed rape after shock that lasted all those seven years.
Believe me! She'll find the judge who's daft enough to concur with her claim.
I dread to think of that girl who lost her virginity in an evening of passionate love affair, will return to claim against me.
And all those after her?
I'm worried sick now!!!

Very sad. But boy have men mocked this in their sports columns.
I swear this war in NZ is pretty even, sometimes. And I think that is why the main of people don't get involved.
Just sad for the ones caught in the middle.Ignorance is the Oppressor, Vigilance the Liberator.

What is this guy apologizing for? I don't understand? He did nothing wrong and it's like he is all ashamed or something? He should just tell everybody to screw themselves. Seriously!
Do not ever suppose that a small group of people can never change the world. INDEED it is the only thing that ever has.
