Jail for young mother who cried rape to cover up her secret one-night stand

Last updated at 13:59pm on 12th February 2008

A young mother who tried to frame a secret lover for rape after her boyfriend found out about their one-night stand has been jailed for four months...She was trying to divert the anger of her violent boyfriend....The mother-of-three broke down and confessed she had made up the rape and has since claimed to have produced a child due to the encounter with the victim...(The victim) later told police he'd been subjected to a hate campaign and considered killing himself...He has had to have CCTV fitted and he is considering moving away. His marriage is now under threat......"Her three children were taken away from her in November of last year. She gave birth in November to her fourth child.

Have you read the comments?

There are a surprising amount of people saying that false-accusers should get the same sentence that the falsely accused would have got if convicted of the crime:
Quote:
False Rape claims should carry the same sentence as Rape because even though this guy has been proven innocent there is no doubt that his life has been changed forever.
- Michael, Manchester

The penalty for false rape claim should equal that for the crime. Four months is a ludicrous sentence and will not act as a deterrent to other mischievous women who claim rape falsely.
- Jfm Bosworth, Kidderminster

False allegations ruin many lives, not just the accused, their family and friends too.
The false accuser should get the sentence that would have been given to the recipient of their lies. If he'd been found guilty, he would have got much longer than 4 months!
I hope he manages to pick up the pieces and get on with his life as best he can - Good luck to him!
- Rs, Tyne and Wear

This woman is scum and should be given the same sentence as a convicted rapist. She is the lowest of the low!
- Ld, Birmingham

The sentence should be the same as a rapist would receive.
- Chris Downing, Yorkshire

I agree with Michael from Manchester. The penalty for a false accusation should be exactly the same as the penalty for the alleged crime. Hammurabi got that right nearly 4000 years ago.
- Robert, Singapore

I take the crime of rape very seriously and believe that it should be punished appropriately i.e. several to many years imprisonment depending on the circumstances. However, I also believe that a false allegation of rape should carry the same sentence that would have been given to the rapist. On this basis the woman should have been sentenced to several years imprisonment. I think the sentence is rubbish and the politicians/legal system really need to get their act together in this regard.
- Steve, Birmingham

People who cry rape should be subject to the same punishment as those who commit the vile act.
- Fj, London UK

Women who make such false allegations should face the same term in jail as the men they falsely accuse. The term should rightly be several years. This is justice, not two months, as she could have put this guy away for life.
- Angus, Bristol
I think public perception towards the treatment of false accusers may be changing....

These comments hit the nail on the head:
Quote:
In reports of these cases, there's always at least one comment from somebody who thinks her real crime is against women who are genuine rape victims.

The sentence was a joke but her victim is just a man, so that's no surprise.
- Alexander Macintyre, Yorkshire

Pru of Cumbria asks of the judge "why did he give such a lenient sentence?". The answer is that in Britain some are still more equal than others, especially in the eyes of a legal system stuck in the past in its attitudes to "the ladies".
- D. L Stephens, York, England

Four months is not enough, women who cry rape are just as despicable as true rapists. She was prepared to let an innocent man go to jail simply to save her own skin. Long sentences are needed to prevent women doing this. But in this anti-men society we know that won't happen.
- Derek, Carlisle,England

Such false accusations are far too common and ruin men's lives - even when they are found not guilty. It's time these lying women were discouraged from doing this by giving them lengthy sentences.
- Nick, London

If this was man, his sentence would be much longer; being female she is let off lightly for the same crime! Equality in justice? I don't think so, should have been two years to life.
- Tony, Liverpool

At last! These creeps are not only going to jail, but getting their ugly faces shown for all to see. We've had laws for women and others for men for far too long. Take note girls, the worm always turns in the end.
- Mr. J H Perks, Westcliff on Sea

Four months is not enough for this liar. She should get the same penalty that rape carries. She is obviously an unfit mother too. What sort of example is she setting? She is damaging the credibility of genuine rape victims. Why does the feminist movement refuse to condemn false accusers like her? Feminists endorse and conceal this kind of behaviour.

- Colin, London
By the way, notice how most of the comments on that website saying that a false accusation of rape should carry the same sentence as rape are left by men?
Many of the comments by women were saying that her real victims were other women who are genuine rape victims....

Isn't it so very significant that all the posts and protesters to the Daily Mail against the paltry sentence for this wicked, self serving female are from men! Now why should that not surprise me?

Re: Jail for young mother who cried rape to cover up her secret one-night stand

I really must be fair here! My apologies to Bella, from Oxfotd, who also said that this women should have received the same treatment as an actual male rapist:

She should get a sentence equivalent to that which would have been granted to John Mullholland, which I don't believe would have been a mere four months. In my opinion she should be made to suffer the consequences she was prepared to inflict on an utterly innocent man.

- Bella Cavendish, Oxford, England
I'm sorry, Bella.

It would be surprising if even 8% of "rape" claims had any factual basis at all.

Re: Jail for young mother who cried rape to cover up her secret one-night stand

Of course, this false rape claim against a man is being blamed on another man. This is one of the saddest stories I have ever heard. I don't know who is worse, the false accuser or the people who abused the victim and his family.

Prison for false rape claim woman
Tameside Advertiser - UK
Stacey Challoner, 20, told police John Mullholland had taken her to a wood and raped her against a tree in April last year. In fact the pair had a fling...

...She then admitted her claims were false but said she had made them up because she lived in fear of her "bullying" partner, and admitted having consensual sex with Mr Mullholland once at her home.

In mitigation, Carolyn Smith said Challenor had no previous convictions and had made the allegations out of fear. She said the whole relationship with her partner had been "peppered with manipulation and violence."

She added that Challoner was "genuinely sorry" for making the allegation and asked for any custodial sentence to be suspended.

But Judge Iain Hamilton told Challoner: "I have no sense that you understand the gravity of what you have done — there is no real sense of remorse, although I accept that you pose a low risk of committing a further offence.

"The allegation that you made is of such a serious nature that any person — both women and men — must be deterred from making such an allegation. I have thought long and hard about giving you a suspended prison sentence but I can't do so and be consistent with my public duty."
Challenor was given a four-month sentence at Manchester Crown Court.

Outside court Mr Mulholland, of Wythenshawe, told how he tried twice to commit suicide after he and his family were subjected to abuse after the allegations came to light.

"My kids are aged three and six and they have been spat at. I have been called a rapist in the street. My wife has stood by me and we are planning to move to Ireland."

Re: Jail for young mother who cried rape to cover up her secret one-night stand

this is terrible. and that people automatically assumed he was a predator.... good god, what is this world coming to?

*of course* this guy is real the victim here, much more directly than true rape victims in other cases. you can certainly say that it has a negative impact on real rape victims (and you could go further to say that it negatively affects all the other victims of crime that had less time/money put into them because of this).... but, to just ignore all what this poor guy has gone through is ridiculous.

i think, though, that, because of how our societies generally view heterosexual women (as automatically victims, for one [and really... feminists should be protesting that, because it completely undermines that idea that women *are* strong and capable]), many of them don't have any idea of how awful it is to be thought of as sexually predatorial (not sure if that's a word - my browser doesn't seem to think so, hehe) in any way, or to just live with the possibility that, at any moment, everything could shift and you could be labeled a sexual predator. do they think that calling someone a rapist doesn't hurt them? seriously....

just wondering, for those of you who think her sentence should have been the same as what his would have been had he been convicted: do you also believe a murderer should be killed? should real rapists be raped? eye for an eye? personally, i don't. i can't really give a particularly good argument for it, though. sorry. maybe tomorrow =P

uh, thoughts? (and i'm sorry if this is rather inarticulate... i haven't been sleeping well, and my brain's pretty much shot.)

Gordon Bennett. This is a mish-mash of a thought.

A Murderer has murdered. A rapist has raped.

A falsely accused man hasn't friggin' done anything. The False Accuser has.

How can this be seen as 'an eye for an eye'?

To accuse an innocent man of rape is not taken seriously enough, it is not considered to be a serious crime - for some feminists it is not even an offence, it is only a lie...

Recently police in some countries are starting to charge such women demanding financial compensation for wasted investigation hours.
Sometimes the victim is sent to some weeks community service or to spend some weeks in jail. I think, this is not enough.

Laws have to be changed.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...=1&expand=true

Please study this case, link above. The Muslim immigrant was not the rapist....for that SHE got 4 (four!) months (MONTHS!)
Yes, 4 months, and she should get at least 4 years by my opinion and a huge bill for compensation for all this mess...

http://www.pantagraph.com/articles/2...ews/108375.txt
Or this one, girls are starting already very young with false rape allegations, the boy (13) spent months in a juvenile detention center, the girl (14) not even one day....
THIS GIRL SHOULD SPEND EXACTLY THE SAME TIME BEHIND BARS AS THE BOY. Do you not think so?

Please let us know your opinion...I wonder if you agree, that we need laws which makes it possible for judges to sentence malicious women to a considerable long time behind bars...
