From 2004: Jail for stabbing over false rape claim Quote:
A MAN who stabbed his sister's ex-boyfriend over false rape claims was jailed for two years yesterday at Belfast Crown Court.
Judge Patrick Markey also ordered that 27-year-old John Michael King spend a further year on probation after his release, telling him that "even if (the rape) had occured, it would not have justified" the attack.
Earlier, prosecution lawyer Peter Magill told the court that a group of men had kicked in the front door of an 18-year-old's flat in Antrim Road, Belfast, at 4.30am on December 19, 2002.
He told the court the gang of vigilantes "severely assaulted" their victim and "unfortunately there were some bottles and glasses" in the flat that were used to stab the teenager, severing an artery in his right arm and leaving him with "multiple stab and puncture wounds".
Mr Magill told the judge that as a result of the attack, the victim's spleen had to be removed and that would mean the teenager would have to take prescription drugs for the rest of his life.
Mr King pleaded guilty to wounding the teenager with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Defence counsel Frank O'Donoghue said Mr King had been "emotionally charged" at the time after his sister had told him she had been raped.
He said: "That was reported to the police but was later withdrawn. He did not know it had been withdrawn and was of the honest belief that it had occured".
The judge said Mr King was lucky not to be on a "far more serious charge" as the teenager would have bled to death if he had not received medical attention when he did.
