Girl lied over sex assault claims
A 15-year-old girl has admitted lying to police over claims she was sexually assaulted behind a bus stop in Shropshire.
Det Insp Pete Brophy said "an enormous amount of time and effort" had been wasted investigating the girl's claims.
However, he said it was not in "anyone's best interests" to press charges over the matter.
Police sealed off Randlay Avenue, in Randlay, Telford, after the girl said she was attacked on Monday afternoon.
Det Insp Brophy said: "We did have concerns that the report was not all that it seemed.
"But it is imperative that we treat any allegations like this extremely seriously because genuine rape victims must have the confidence to report offences to the police."
