A case from 2007:

A woman who falsely accused two police officers of raping her has received a suspended jail sentence.

Victoria Patrick, 30, was so drunk on a train in May last year that police were called, and had to drop her home to The Furlongs, Market Harborough, Leics.

She accused them of raping her, but an inquiry found against her claim and she was convicted of wasting police time.

Leicester magistrates gave her a suspended four month jail sentence and ordered her to pay compensation.

'Devastating ordeal'

Patrick accepted that she had been "confused".

Speaking after the sentence hearing at Leicester Magistrates' Court, Det Cons Jane Hicks, of Leicestershire Police, said: "Police officers' time is very valuable.

"Apart from this, the ordeal the two officers had to endure had a devastating effect on themselves and their families.

"All they were trying to do was their job in protecting this woman and ensuring she would come to no harm."
