Wrongly convicted as a sex offender
Time doesn't pay, wrongfully imprisoned find - CNN.com
This may be a rehashed article but any mainstream notices need to be noted...
Note how this was never branded or tried as false accusation according to the article. The name of the "victim" is never mentioned (neither is the wife/mother) which makes this seem a bit fishy. While she was raped (according to the article) the fact that her word is what stood is why we have a problem with rape proceedings.Last edited by Nikonian; 26th-March-2012 at 07:51 AM.

Re: Wrongly convicted as a sex offender
I think we have to be very careful about what a false accusation is, or at least the type of false accusation that is heinous and must be punished.
Honest mistakes happen. We've all looked across the street/room and seen someone who looked like someone we know .. and that's someone we know. It is even easier to mistake the identity of someone we've only met under traumatic circumstances.
Of course, 17 years in jail is a terrible result of an accident in identity but if a person's accused had been attacked and if their accuser was genuine in identifying them, the only political issue is what kind of compensation they have. Meanwhile, the police and prosecution should always review the case to see if they could have done things better, as well as try to track down the real culprit.
A genuine misidentification is a totally separate matter from an accuser who was never assaulted, or who knows that their attacker was someone else.____________________________________________

Re: Another False Rape Victim
I would like to pose a question:
Instead of always sending the rapist to prison, what about having a forced marriage between the two? It makes him take responsibility; and as we already know, if there is divorce, she can drain him dry. Sounds like a plan to me.Our society puts a premium on beauty; common in declining cultures.

Re: Another False Rape Victim
FB. Would YOU like to be FORCED to marry someone you did not love and who had accused you of a heinous crime?
Are you not also giving some validity to rapacious 'bleeding dry' of a man by a woman?
Not a great plan, it seems to me.

I see what you are saying Douglas. Maybe it is the way the story was written but I just felt there were a few holes they should have dug up before rushing him off to prison...

Re: Another False Rape Victim
Maybe being forced to marry might not that good of an idea. But then it can make the 'victim' think twice about making false allegations. After all, she has to marry him as well. If she was never really abused would she want to end up married to the one she falsely accused?
While it would be a regulation that could be abused by crazy, gold-digging women and girls, those are pretty easy to spot or figure out once she tries to seduce the man. There is also the possibility that she was abused, but not by the guy she identified. In this case, her family would have something to loose; her friends would not want her to leave them; the state would have not one, but two people to think about, a guy and girl; and the feminist would also want more proof, thereby uncovering more evidence in the accused's favor.
It can have bad and good consequences, but mostly I think it will serve to cause people to think twice before falsely accusing or committing the act.Our society puts a premium on beauty; common in declining cultures.
