RADAR ALERT:

VAWA, I-VAWA, and CEDAW: Why Men Now Fear Marriage

Misery Loves Company - Have A Piece Of VAWA/I-VAWA Pie

In 1996 Congress found "Marriage is the foundation of a successful society." In 2005 the Deficit Reduction Act provided $150 million a year for healthy marriage promotion and fatherhood. So why was the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) extended in 2006, when it directly affects the stability of marriages and relationships between fathers and children in America? (http://mediaradar.org/docs/VAWA-Threat-to-Families.pdf)

The way VAWA is written, a woman can report that she's in fear, and with just her word she can get a temporary restraining order and emergency child custody order. Every day innocent fathers visit their children in jail-like supervised visitation centers and are forced into anger management classes, sometimes for years. (http://mensnewsdaily.com/2007/02/26/cant-find-a-husband)

American men are turning away from marriage and parenthood; many simply won't risk losing everything, including their children. John Burke speaks for many when he says,

"I can think of a dozen people off the top of my head that fear having children. I really wish the world would smarten up. I have often thought of giving up and just going to a third world country where these crazy lobby groups have not destroyed the countries yet."

Hopefully, it's not too late. Even though it's clear that VAWA is seriously flawed (see http://www.mediaradar.org/docs/VAWA-...llegations.pdf), Presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden wants to export this wretchedness to other countries. Biden plans on introducing two bills, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), a dangerous treaty promoted by the United Nations, and the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA).

According to Domenico Fumagalli, President of Papa' Separati Lombardia, VAWA-influenced Pari Opportunita is already harming families. They are currently distributing a "highly violent" TV Spot, declaring that one out of two women in Italy are abused in their homes" (http://www.papaseparatilombardia.org/on_line/home.asp) With CEDAW and I-VAWA in place, we'd see more families destroyed, and more fatherless children worldwide.

Is this a gift we want to give our international friends? Members of Biden's own party have expressed concern that the U.S.' unilateral intervention in Iraq has grievously harmed the perception of the U.S. in world opinion. How much lower will our reputation sink in the eyes of our international friends if Congress arrogantly assumes the power to write laws for other countries, then uses the power of the purse to impose them by treaty.

If you want to protect our international friends from the heartbreak and devastation our citizens have to endure, send this alert to your local media and representatives. Tell them to REJECT CEDAW AND I-VAWA.
